Job Summary

We are seeking a high-level SRE Consultant to serve as a strategic and technical architect for a major organizational transformation. This role is responsible for migrating traditional Production Operations into a modern Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) model across various Lines of Business (LoBs). You will conduct maturity assessments, define engagement models, and create a tower-specific roadmap to reduce toil and improve system reliability. This position requires a leader who can evaluate current talent, identify skill gaps, and execute a transition plan that balances retained operations with SRE ownership.

Key Responsibilities & Required Skills

SRE Transformation & Strategy

• Maturity Assessments: Conduct comprehensive audits across different business towers to identify gaps in SRE capabilities and recommend targeted technical interventions.
• Engagement Modeling: Define and implement SRE engagement models (e.g., Embedded, Consulting, or Tiered) based on specific tower maturity and skill readiness.
• Roadmap Development: Execute a detailed transition plan from traditional operations to SRE, including tooling strategies, governance models, and coaching plans.

Engineering Excellence & Observability

• Cloud & Automation: Leverage deep expertise in AWS/Azure and automation frameworks like Terraform and Ansible to build self-healing infrastructures.
• Observability Implementation: Drive the adoption of advanced monitoring stacks using Dynatrace, Splunk, and Datadog to shift from reactive monitoring to proactive observability.
• Operational Rigor: Focus on measurable outcomes such as Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Error Budgets, and the systematic reduction of toil.

Talent & Change Management

• Role Mapping: Map existing Production Operations functions to SRE roles, identifying necessary reskilling needs for current team members.
• Talent Evaluation: Assess technical staff for SRE suitability and make critical decisions on team retention, movement, or replacement based on tower needs.
• Stakeholder Influence: Present strategic roadmaps to senior leadership, ensuring alignment between Ally Reliability Engineering (ARE) hub goals and specific LoB needs.

Mandatory Technical Requirements

1. Experience: Minimum 15+ years in Software Engineering or Ops, with at least 5 years leading SRE teams.
2. Transformation Expertise: Proven track record of leading SRE transformations in enterprise-scale financial environments.
3. Tooling Mastery: Advanced knowledge of Dynatrace, Splunk, Datadog, Terraform, and Ansible.
4. Cloud Architecture: Extensive experience with AWS and Azure cloud platforms.
5. Leadership: Strong ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cultural change within a regulated industry.
