Job Description
The Head of Data is a key enterprise leader responsible for creating trusted, timely, and high-quality data that powers analytics, digital experience and data products across the firm. To facilitate this responsibility, this role owns the end-to-end data supply chain-from creation to consumption, collaborating with data source owners inside and outside the firm to identify authoritative data sources, manufacture high quality data, ensuring this high quality as the data securely moves to and within a central analytical repository, defining data models within the central analytical repository, ensuring constant integrity in the data supply chain as data sources and all aspects of the data supply chain change. As a senior leader, you will define strategy, influence executive priorities, and build a world-class data organization that drives measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture
o Collaborate with the business to understand the key data needed to run the business.
o Identify authoritative sources collaboratively with data source owners and business teams
o Develop a common vocabulary for key data across the firm collaboratively with the business teams and business teams
o Develop and maintain data models for the central data repository collaboratively with IT, data source owners and business teams.
o Develop and maintain Transformation rules for data from source to and through central data models
o Publish data inventory firmwide in a business consumable manner to enable self-service analytics.
Data Quality
o Create a Data Quality Program to ensure clean data is created at the authoritative source inside and outside the firm. This includes identification of tooling collaboratively with IT and owning the ratification, input and maintenance of data quality rules.
o Create and deploy a data quality tracking and issue remediation process collaboratively with the data source owners.
o Create a data quality risk tracking program to connect key data to the business impact of diminished data quality to. Use this to help prioritize data quality efforts and to ensure business awareness of impact.
Data Trust Process
o Establish a central corporate body consisting of every business unit and all data source owners to ensure firmwide alignment on changes to key data - data definitions, term names, target state quality and owners to begin.
o Ensure regulatory compliance, ethical use, and secure data access rights.
Data Security, Compliance, Privacy, Retention
o Collaborate with CISO, CPO and others to develop and deploy mechanism ensuring all data satisfies applicable data and firm regulations, is stored and moves securely, is accessed by people who have approval to do so and is retained per firm standards.
Master Data Management
o Develop and deploy a program to effectively manage all master data across firm including identification of Master Data, evaluation of existing tooling collaboratively with IT, development and maintenance of match rules, process for human remediation of data matching. Initial focus is on Mastering for creating high quality data in the central repository then synchronizing master data back to data sources.
Collaboration & Leadership
o Partner with strategy, analytics, IT, and business teams to create cross functional processes that effectively deliver business outcomes to the firm.
o Monitor and maintain Quantifiable business outcomes enabled by improved data capabilities (e.g., cost savings, revenue uplift).
o Lead and develop content for Management Committee and Board level discussions on your plan, risks and impact.
o Drive automation and agility in data processes to support evolving business needs.
Qualifications
o Proven success setting up from scratch and maturing data functions as defined above in regulated environments. This includes deep knowledge of developing and deploying the operating model for your team: skills, processes and tooling required.
o Expertise in authoritative source identification, data governance, data and technical architecture, data modeling, data quality, data security, data privacy, data retention and master data strategies.
o Strong executive presence with ability to influence at the C-suite level.
o Experience with modern data platforms, cloud technologies, and integration tools.
o Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred: Financial services experience; familiarity with CCPA and other state data regulations; knowledge of emerging data technologies;
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Travel: Up to 20%.
Compensation Range:
The base annual salary range for this role is $208, 000 - $280, 000 plus a competitive performance-based bonus. Base annual salary depends on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and location. Base annual salary may also differ significantly due to geography and cost of labor considerations.
