Apache Solr Administrator (Search Platform / ELK Stack)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Search Platform Administrator with strong Apache Solr administration expertise (primary) and ELK Stack exposure (secondary/optional). This role will support enterprise-scale Solr platforms across non-production and production environments, along with Elasticsearch Proofs of Concept (PoCs), ensuring high performance, reliability, scalability, and secure operations.

Key Responsibilities

Apache Solr (Primary Responsibilities)

• Lead administration and support of Apache Solr across non-prod and prod environments
• Manage SolrCloud architecture including ZooKeeper, shards, replicas, and leader election
• Perform advanced JVM tuning (heap/off-heap memory, garbage collection, threads, caches)
• Diagnose and resolve performance issues related to CPU usage, latency, throughput, and memory leaks
• Optimize high-volume indexing using effective commit strategies and merge policies
• Implement and enforce security and high availability (TLS, RBAC, auditing, zero-downtime upgrades)

ELK Stack (Secondary / Optional)

• Design, build, and support Elasticsearch clusters for PoCs and production use
• Tune Elasticsearch mappings, shards, JVM settings, and query DSL
• Secure Elasticsearch using TLS and role-based access control
• Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic Stack

Platform Operations

• Perform capacity planning, benchmarking, and root cause analysis (RCA)
• Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational best practices

Lucidworks Fusion (Preferred)

• Install, configure, and support Lucidworks Fusion (on-prem and/or cloud)
• Manage custom Fusion JARs, patches, and vendor-led upgrades
• Build, tune, and support ingestion and query pipelines
• Troubleshoot Fusion, Spark integrations, and connector failures

Required Skills (Must-Have)

• 4 5 years of hands-on experience administering Apache Solr
• Strong expertise with SolrCloud operations and JVM performance tuning
• Proven troubleshooting skills for search performance, indexing, and query optimization
• Solid understanding of TLS, RBAC, high availability, and zero-downtime upgrades
• Experience supporting Lucidworks Fusion (installation, pipelines, upgrades)

Secondary / Nice-to-Have Skills

• ELK Stack administration: Elasticsearch, with exposure to Logstash and Kibana
• Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic monitoring
• Experience with Spark connectors and ingestion pipeline tuning

Education

• Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
