Job Description:

Job Title: Material Industrial Engineer

Job Type: Contract, Contract to Hire, Fulltime (W2 only)

Job Location: Remote or Springhill, TN

Work Schedule: Remote or Onsite Hybrid 3 - 5 days

The Material Industrial Engineer plays a critical role in developing lean material strategies, optimizing end to end material flow, and supporting automation deployment within manufacturing operations. This role ensures that materials move efficiently from warehouses and docks to lineside workstations, supporting production, throughput, cost targets, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and deployment of Lean Material Strategy (LMS) across the manufacturing
    site.
  • Design and optimize material flow, warehousing layout, dock utilization, and storage strategies.
  • Develop and sustain automated material-handling solutions, including AMRs, AGVs, conveyors, and robotic delivery systems.
  • Define and implement containerization, kitting, small lot strategies, sequencing, and PFEP (Plan for Every Part).
  • Conduct time studies, ergonomic assessments, labor optimization, and workstation layout evaluations.
  • Enhance lineside material presentation and drive continuous improvements for replenishment and delivery.
  • Support program launches, capacity planning, and cross functional readiness reviews.
  • Collaborate with UAW partners, suppliers, plant leadership, and engineering teams.
  • Drive data driven decision making and implement solutions to increase safety, efficiency, and throughput.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Experience in industrial engineering, material flow, manufacturing, or automation environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean principles, PFEP, material flow design, and handling systems.
  • Ability to analyze data, develop engineering solutions, and lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in fast-paced plant environments.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with AMRs, AGVs, conveyors, or automated logistics equipment.
    • Automotive manufacturing or large-scale assembly experience.
    • Hands on experience with work measurement systems (MOST, MODAPTS, MTM, etc.).
    • Familiarity with MES, ERP, and digital manufacturing systems related to material movement
