Role: Senior Network Engineer
Location: Phoenix, AZ - 100% on-site - Local Only Candidates
Duration: 4 months (5th Jan 30th April 2026)

This position works Monday through Friday and may work more than forty(40) hours to perform assigned duties, which can include weekends, evenings, early morning hours, and/or holidays. Employees in this position are required to participate in a 24/7 on-call standby rotation. Currently tiered rotation - 2 weeks on-call every 6 weeks remote/on-site for rotation.
Responsibilities:
Provides network design and security strategy for Department's CAD network
Provides excellent customer service for Fire Department staff, vendors, stakeholders and partners.
Plans and coordinates infrastructure and networking projects; manage and review projects and tasks implementation by direct reports and consultants
Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network connectivity and performance
Leads creation and maintenance of documentation related to knowledge base, network configurations, network mapping diagrams, processes, and service records.
Assists the IT Manager in developing annual operating budget and Capital Improvement Plan for network infrastructure components.
Ensures the overall architecture of all systems are in alignment with City of Phoenix technical standards and the long-term technology vision of the Phoenix Fire Department
Evaluates and implements the overall network infrastructure plans for the wide area network including knowledge of Cisco Nexus Data Center equipment and Palo Alto Next Gen Firewalls
Coordinates and manages the relationship and contracts with third-party vendors involved in Fire network systems.
Fosters and manages relationships with the City's ITS Department to ensure collaboration and cooperation to meet the needs of the Fire Department.
Actively researches available technologies that would improve reliability and usability of Phoenix Fire Dispatch Services.
Participates in department, vendor, partner, Federated department meetings as required.
Audits devices and configurations to confirm standards, security and best practices are followed
Creates, documents, resolves and maintains ticketing system items including problem, incident, service requests, change controls and configuration management database.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Five years of experience in planning, design, and maintenance of a large network
Five years of experience in configuration/management/troubleshooting of Cisco IOS and Cisco Nexus devices
Supervisory experience directing the activities of a small team consisting of full-time and contract employees.
Experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP
Experience with point-to-point VPNs, IPsec, and NAT
CCNP, Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall Engineer, or similar industry certifications.
