The AML Analyst is responsible for monitoring, investigating, and reporting suspicious financial activity to ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and internal policies. This role focuses on transaction monitoring, case investigations, and supporting regulatory reporting obligations.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor customer transactions for unusual or suspicious activity using internal AML systems.
- Review and investigate alerts, documenting findings clearly and accurately.
- Conduct research on customers and counterparties using internal records and external databases (e.g., sanctions lists, adverse media).
- Escalate potential suspicious activity to analysts or Compliance for further review.
- Prepare or support the preparation of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) / Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs).
- Maintain thorough documentation of all investigations in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Assist with enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews for higher-risk clients.
- Support audits, regulatory exams, and periodic AML reviews.
- Stay informed on AML regulations and industry best practices.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Law, Criminology, or related field.
- 1-3 years of AML, compliance, risk, or financial services experience (preferred).
- Knowledge of AML regulations (e.g., FINTRAC, OFAC, FATF, PIPEDA, USA PATRIOT Act depending on region).
- Experience with AML transaction monitoring tools (e.g., Actimize, Verafin, Quantexa, or similar).
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent written communication skills for documentation and reporting.
