Job Description :
The Lab Assistant supports the Endocrine Laboratory by assisting with specimen processing, office administration, and general laboratory operations. This role is critical to maintaining accuracy, consistency, and compliance within lab workflows.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Specimen Processing
Receive blood specimens via mail, FedEx, courier, etc.
Assign unique barcodes and prepare specimens for testing
Separate blood from serum using a centrifuge
Review incoming paperwork for accuracy and completeness; resolve discrepancies
Communicate professionally with clients (labs, doctors’ offices, Norris and Keck Medical Centers)
Maintain strict attention to detail to prevent errors in handling or labeling
Note: Data entry related to sample processing is handled by another team
2. Office & Administrative Support
Prepare patient past sheets and verify patient records
Perform data entry and assist with billing documentation
Distribute patient reports via fax, email, or mail
Support general administrative tasks related to lab workflow
3. General Laboratory Duties
Organize, archive, retrieve, and store samples in freezers
Monitor and log storage temperatures
Assist with routine instrument maintenance and inventory checks
Prepare and ship supply orders to clients
Perform general lab clean-up and routine operational tasks
Ideal Candidate Profile
Experience or exposure to a laboratory or medical office setting (12+ months preferred)
BA/BS degree not required
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Effective problem solver who seeks accurate information
Strong communicator with good customer service and interpersonal skills
Comfortable working in a structured, serious lab environment
Understands laboratory workflow and the Pre-Analytical, Analytical, and Post-Analytical phases
Willing to be trained and comply with lab safety, quality control, and regulatory policies
Additional Notes

Role is suited for individuals seeking consistent, structured work
Temporary workers may be considered for permanent roles based on performance
