A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking a CNC Machinist/Programmer to support precision machining operations in a modern, team-oriented environment. The company focuses on delivering high-quality components and engineered solutions while maintaining a commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.
Position Overview
The CNC Set-Up Machinist (1st Shift) is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating advanced multi-axis milling and turning equipment. The role involves creating and modifying CNC programs, interpreting technical drawings, and ensuring efficient, high-quality production.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, modify, and maintain CNC programs using CAD/CAM software.
Set up, troubleshoot, and operate 5-axis and 6-axis machining centers.
Review engineering drawings and determine tooling, operations, and workflow sequence.
Conduct simulations and test runs to validate programs before production.
Perform first-article inspections and ongoing quality checks throughout the manufacturing process.
Estimate machining time and resources needed for jobs.
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure smooth workflow.
Maintain documentation related to programs, setups, and process improvements.
Ensure machines are producing parts consistently, efficiently, and within specification.
Qualifications
Hands-on experience with 5 and 6 axis CNC machining equipment.
Strong CNC programming knowledge and proficiency with CAD/CAM platforms.
Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and 3D models.
Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling, and metalworking processes.
Strong math skills, including algebra and trigonometry.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about workflow.
Effective communication skills and strong attention to detail.
Mechanically inclined with experience in a machine shop environment.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical certification or degree in CNC programming, machining technology, mechanical technology, or a related field preferred.
Experience with CNC program creation, machine setup, and multi-axis machining operations.
Knowledge of machine tools, electronics, and shop safety practices.
