Software Engineer Ruby/Rails & DevOps

Summary
We are hiring a hands-on Software Engineer with strong Ruby on Rails, DevOps, and production operations experience to help operate a mission-critical, regulated SaaS platform.
This is an ownership role, not a ticket-only role. You will design, deploy, operate, and improve production systems end-to-end. Our systems support public-safety / justice-sector customers, where high availability and trust are critical.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Ruby on Rails applications and APIs
- Debug and optimize Rails, ActiveRecord, and SQL performance
- Own CI/CD pipelines and production deployments
- Operate and improve cloud, containerized, or VM-based infrastructure
- Monitor systems, respond to incidents, and drive root-cause fixes
- Automate repetitive operational tasks
- Support CJIS, SOC 2 and similar compliance requirements
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails
- Experience operating production SaaS systems
- DevOps experience (CI/CD, monitoring, deployments)
- Container (Docker) and/or VM-based infrastructure experience
- Ability to work independently and take ownership
- Experience using LLMs (e.g. claude, codex, gemini) to assist with design/coding/debugging.
Trust Requirement (Mandatory)
- Ability to pass FBI fingerprint-based background check
- Eligibility to work on systems handling U.S. Criminal Justice / Public-Safety data
Nice-to-Have
- Broad Rails codebase experience
- Regulated or mission-critical environments (public safety, healthcare, finance)
- Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible)
- Experience with SOC 2 and similar compliance efforts
- On-call or incident-response experience
