Description
The Platform Engineering team is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in Datadog and modern observability practices.
The ideal candidate has strong experience implementing end to end monitoring solutions, building scalable observability platforms, and enabling engineering teams with actionable insights into system performance, reliability, and health.
You should be passionate about improving system visibility, reducing MTTR, enhancing developer experience, and building automated, data driven observability frameworks across distributed systems.
This role involves close collaboration with cross functional teams to design, implement, and optimize observability tooling, while driving the modernization of monitoring platforms from on premises to cloud or SaaS.
4-6+ years of experience in software engineering, SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering.
Strong hands on experience with Datadog or similar observability platforms (New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk).
Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure or Google Cloud Platform acceptable).
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform strongly preferred; Ansible a plus).
Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, .NET, Go, or Node.js).
Strong Linux fundamentals and shell scripting skills.
Excellent problem solving skills and a proactive approach to reliability and performance.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to mentor junior engineers and influence observability best practices.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
Relevant certifications (AWS, Kubernetes, Datadog Observability, DevOps) are a plus.

Key Responsibilities
Design and Maintain Observability Platform: Build, enhance, and operate Datadog based observability solutions across applications, infrastructure, and cloud environments.
Developer Enablement Sessions: Lead training, workshops, and office hours to educate teams on observability best practices, tooling, and instrumentation patterns.
Application Instrumentation: Collaborate with development teams to instrument services for APM, distributed tracing, custom metrics, and RUM.
End to End Log Management: Implement and optimize log ingestion pipelines, parsing rules, retention strategies, and cost efficient log routing within Datadog.
Monitoring & Alerting Frameworks: Develop dashboards, monitors, SLOs/SLIs, and alerting strategies to ensure system reliability and rapid incident detection.
On Call Rotation: Participate in an on call schedule to support observability platform health, troubleshoot telemetry issues, and assist during incidents.
Automation & IaC: Automate observability configurations using Terraform or similar tools to ensure consistency, scalability, and repeatability.
Cross Team Collaboration: Work closely with SRE, DevOps, and application teams to integrate observability into CI/CD pipelines and the SDLC.
Operational Support & Troubleshooting: Investigate gaps in telemetry, resolve performance anomalies, and provide daily support for Datadog integrations and usage.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Maintain documentation for observability standards and drive ongoing improvements to reduce MTTR and enhance platform maturity.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
