Job Description
Client is seeks a System Engineer for the Enterprise Architecture Practice Area to design, build, and modernize GIS enterprise systems for utility customers. The role delivers implementations across on premise and private or hybrid cloud, automates and orchestrates deployments, tunes performance, and documents solutions. You will contribute to presales responses and marketing activities, support internal IT in client datacenters, and provide guidance to development, QA, and training teams while mentoring colleagues and representing client with customers and partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise system solutions based on prescribed architectures for GIS platforms
- Automate and orchestrate deployments to enable repeatable, efficient implementations
- Configure and manage enterprise geodatabases and related database solutions
- Execute performance tuning and threshold testing, analyze metrics, and recommend improvements
- Produce technical deliverables including requirements, test cases, admin guides, and deployment manuals
- Support internal IT operations across servers, storage, network, and appliances in client datacenters
- Provide consulting on datacenter security and private network administration for clients
- Ensure deliverables are thoroughly tested, reviewed, and aligned to customer expectations
- Contribute to workshops and materials for GIS Enterprise Architecture engagements
- Manage software licensing compliance and train onshore and offshore teams
- Stay current on partner and competitor technologies and mentor across the practice
Must-Have Skills
- 8 to 11 years in enterprise system consulting for large technology projects, preferably with utility customers
- 3 to 7 years in enterprise GIS covering implementation and administration
- Hands on experience deploying, configuring, administering, and supporting Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online
- Strong background with datacenter virtualization and hypervisors such as VMware, Citrix, Hyper V, or Nutanix
- Experience configuring enterprise system security solutions and applying best practices
- Working knowledge of Layer 4 and Layer 7 load balancing and reverse proxy solutions such as F5 BIG IP, NGINX, or Citrix ADC
- Experience with system monitoring and tuning tools such as ArcGIS Monitor, Dynatrace, or SolarWinds
- Proficiency with Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, and containerization concepts, plus deployment orchestration using tools such as Terraform, Puppet, or Chef
- Demonstrated success building, configuring, tuning, and supporting production GIS enterprise systems
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with strong customer relations
Nice-To-Have Skills
- GPU configuration experience with NVIDIA or AMD technologies
- Experience with VDI, VLANs, firewalls, IAM, DNS, VPNs, and load balancers in private, on premise, and hybrid environments
- Familiarity with Citrix Hypervisor or VMware ESXi and vSphere
- Experience with databases, file shares, storage repositories, batch jobs, scheduled processes, automation, replication, and high availability or disaster recovery
- Ability to identify single points of failure and implement risk reduction measures
- Experience with Microsoft 365 including SharePoint, Azure DevOps, and Citrix administration
- Prior contribution to technical blogs, conference presentations, or high visibility activities
Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Networks, or a related discipline. Foundation level certification from a major vendor or industry body such as Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, IBM, Oracle, Esri, or TOGAF, or the ability to achieve certification within 12 months and maintain it continuously. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, MS Office, Visio, and Project, and familiarity with the Esri Well Architected Framework
