Your role As an R&D Technician, you will play a key role in assembling, instrumenting, and thoroughly testing piston and rotary compressor packages along with their auxiliary equipment. Your expertise will support the advancement of product development through hands-on assembly work and insightful evaluation of performance during rigorous testing phases.
You will contribute valuable recommendations to improve product designs based on your practical experience during assembly and testing. Upholding a strong culture of safety and organization, including maintaining 5S standards in the laboratory environment, is a fundamental aspect of this role.
Principle Duties: - Under general supervision, assemble compressor packages, including intricate electrical wiring, control piping, and plumbing systems following detailed blueprints and engineering instructions.
- Configure compressors with instrumentation and set up data acquisition systems to facilitate precise and effective testing.
- Carry out testing protocols according to Research and Development work orders, strictly adhering to established testing procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of data.
- Meticulously document observations, maintain comprehensive notes, and communicate findings and issues promptly to the project leader to support continuous improvement.
- Keep the work area organized and efficient by managing incoming parts, selecting components needed for prototype assemblies, and ensuring proper disposal or storage of unnecessary materials.
- Champion workplace safety by consistently following safety regulations, wearing required protective equipment, and promoting well-being among team members.
Reporting and Accountability: - Report directly to the R&D Lab Manager, collaborating closely to align lab activities with project goals and timelines.
Note: Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to meet operational needs.
To suceed, you need Education and Experience: - High School Diploma or GED required; additional technical certifications or training in relevant fields is advantageous.
- A minimum of four years' experience in mechanical and electrical assembly work related to compressors or similar equipment.
- Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition technologies, and machinery testing is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in reading electrical drawings and performing electric soldering is desired.
- Basic understanding of compressor operations provides a significant asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Demonstrate flexibility and a team-oriented mindset to effectively support R&D objectives.
- Solid mechanical background with competency in using diverse hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Ability to interpret assembly drawings and use precision measuring instruments accurately.
- Clear and legible documentation skills to complete reports and forms as required.
- Capable of adhering to personal protective equipment protocols and physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 50 lbs., maneuvering in confined or awkward positions, and operating a forklift safely.
- Working knowledge of 5S methodology to maintain an orderly work environment.
- Basic IT proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Word, to support data management and reporting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: - This role requires consistent mobility, standing, and walking within plant and lab environments.
- Frequent lifting of materials up to 50 lbs. and performing various physical tasks such as climbing, stooping, and kneeling.
- Work occurs in a plant environment with exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions including temperature changes and humidity.
- Strict adherence to wearing safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, and arc flash protective equipment as dictated by safety policies.
