Job Description:

The Data Center Technician is responsible for supporting data center operations through hardware setup, diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and decommissioning activities.
This role ensures high service quality, adherence to safety standards, and efficient resolution of issues while supporting deployments and ongoing operations.

Responsibilities:

Prepare, stage, set up, and perform data center hardware startups and shutdowns including racks, hard drives, and switches using established checklists, guides, and protocols.
Assist and guide other technicians in completing complex or challenging tasks.
Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures to identify root causes and replace faulty components with minimal disruption.
Conduct post-execution quality checks to ensure proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling in accordance with safety protocols and deployment standards.
Decommission hardware for simple changes and refresh activities such as memory upgrades and OS rebuilds with minimal guidance.
Communicate, report, and escalate incidents according to defined procedures.
Participate in daily safety briefings, complete required safety training, and comply with safety procedures related to equipment use and workplace hazards.
Contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing information, participating in team meetings, and staying informed of team activities.
Proactively share relevant information to support efficient workflows and reduce operational impact.
Complete assigned tickets efficiently while meeting performance expectations and service level agreements.
Demonstrate accountability and ownership for service quality, completeness, and overall data center operations.
Maintain a strong operational focus by understanding the impact of assigned work on overall operations.

Requirement/Must Have:

Strong server hardware knowledge with understanding of component and system-level failures.
Ability to assist with failure analysis and problem management activities.
Experience tracking server health and identifying emerging failure trends.
Proficiency with IPMI for diagnostics.
Experience administering diagnostic tools, testing utilities, and firmware updates.
Experience resolving real-time issues during new deployments.
Ability to work independently and within a distributed team environment.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds as required.
Ability to safely climb ladders when required.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment as needed.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods without loss of productivity.
Ability to use hands for handling tools, controls, and precise adjustments.

Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience as a Data Center Technician.
Experience with Windows Server and WinPE environments.
Basic experience with Linux environments.
Experience with network troubleshooting across Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3.
Experience with virtual machine setup and environment configuration.
Basic scripting experience using tools such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash.

Skills:

Server hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting.
IPMI utilization.
Windows Server administration.
Linux administration.
Network troubleshooting.
Virtualization technologies.
Scripting and automation fundamentals.

Qualification And Education:

Associate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information. Technology, or equivalent experience preferred.
CompTIA A+ or equivalent experience.
CompTIA Server+ or equivalent experience.
CCENT or equivalent experience.
CCNA certification preferred.
MCP or MSCE certification preferred.
