Overview
The Software/Systems Engineer designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs applications software and systems that incorporate logical and mathematical solutions. This role involves multidisciplinary collaboration with hardware and equipment engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of data processing systems for product and commercial software. The engineer identifies user needs, analyzes system capabilities, resolves issues related to program intent and output requirements, and prepares technical operating instructions. Responsibilities also include contributing to the development and maintenance of compilers, utility programs, and operating systems while ensuring adherence to applicable software standards.
Key Responsibilities
Software & Systems Development
- Design, develop, test, and debug software applications and supporting systems.
- Conduct research and collaborate with hardware or equipment engineering teams.
- Analyze system capabilities, define requirements, and recommend solutions.
- Prepare and maintain system documentation, specifications, and operating instructions.
- Ensure compliance with internal software standards and best practices.
Installation & Configuration
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems,
- Monitor system performance and apply updates, patches, and upgrades.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
- Maintain reliable and secure system operations.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to systems, networks, or software.
- Provide support to ensure continuous system operations, including participation in an on-call rotation if required.
Security Management
- Implement and follow security best practices for systems and networks.
- Maintain security configurations, including firewalls and access controls.
- Assist in developing safeguards to help protect systems and data.
Data & Backup Management
- Implement and manage backup and recovery solutions
- Support storage management and contribute to disaster recovery planning and execution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a network or systems administrator.
- Knowledge of network infrastructure (Layer 2/Layer 3).
- Experience with Windows and enterprise Linux systems (e.g., Red Hat or comparable distributions).
- Experience working with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware/vSphere).
- Familiarity with security accreditation processes (e.g., RMF or similar frameworks).
- Industry certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are beneficial but optional.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in a related field with 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master s degree with 3 years of experience; or a Ph.D. with no experience required.
Pay Rate:- $43.25 - $55.00.
