About the role This leadership role is responsible for the overall design, build, run, and reliability engineering of the company's foundational compute, network, storage, and database infrastructure, ensuring security, performance, and high availability for all critical services and data.
This is a highly technical, hands-on, and critical integration role. We need a seasoned leader capable of managing complexity across multiple domains (Network, Compute, Data). Prioritize candidates who can demonstrate proficiency in both advanced DBA/Data Resilience and SRE/Automation principles to ensure the entire platform is stable and automated. The integration of core infrastructure and data demands an expert-level technologist.
Your responsibilities - Infrastructure & System Engineering: Lead the strategic planning, deployment, and maintenance of all on-premise and virtualized Compute and Network infrastructure (WAN, LAN, VPN, Meraki, local firewalls).
- Database & Data Management (DBA): Direct all core database administration functions (SQL, others), ensuring data integrity, performance tuning, patching, and lifecycle management for the entire database estate.
- Storage & Data Resilience: Oversee the dedicated Storage infrastructure utilized by both compute and database environments. Lead all data Backup and Recovery operations, utilizing specialized tools like VeeaM Backup and Azure Backup.
- Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) & Automation: Drive the adoption of SRE principles and champion Scripts/Coding (PowerShell, Python) to automate system provisioning, patching, and operational tasks across compute and data platforms.
- Platform Stability & ITSM: Own the entire lifecycle of system stability, including defining and managing Availability Management, Capacity Management, and proactive Problem Management for all core platform and data services.
- Security Execution: Manage all server and database Patching cycles and adhere to security policies by executing Vulnerability Management (VMS) and hardening standards. Oversee the lifecycle of system Certificates and non-cloud Licenses.
- Monitoring & Observability: Implement and manage advanced monitoring solutions (Site 24x7, ITpoint or similar) for all Compute and Database assets, ensuring comprehensive Alert and Event Management.
- Virtualization & Gateway Management: Oversee Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) management (Nerdio) and lead the configuration and operation of security perimeter tools like Zscaler and Microsoft Defender.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a specialized team including Network Engineers, SREs, Scripting Resources, and Data Engineers/DBAs, fostering a culture of technical mastery and continuous improvement.
Your profile - Bachelor's degree or similar in Computer Science.
- At least 3 years of managing a team of System Engineers and DBAs.
- At least 10 years of hands-on working experience in the role described below.
- Must be fluent in English, German an asset.
- Certifications desired: MSCE, SRE Foundation, VMware VCP, MS SQL Server, CCNP Enterprise, ITIL Foundation.
- Technical Mastery (Integrated): Deep expertise in operating systems (Windows/Linux Server), hypervisors, core networking (WAN, LAN, VPN), and Storage fundamentals.
- Deep DBA Expertise: Extensive experience managing enterprise and cloud databases across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, plus Azure SQL and NoSQL solutions like MongoDB Atlas, DynamoDB, and Cosmos DB.
- Automation & SRE: Strong proficiency in scripting/coding and proven practical experience implementing SRE practices (SLOs, PIRs) for infrastructure, databases, and network components.
- Data Resilience: Mastery of high-availability, disaster recovery, and data protection concepts. Proven experience managing large-scale backup systems (VeeaM Backup, Azure Backup).
- Security & Gateway Tools: Strong working knowledge of security technologies including endpoint protection (Microsoft Defender), vulnerability scanning, and cloud security gateways (Zscaler).
- Leadership & Management: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage a geographically dispersed technical support team.
- Candidate must be comfortable managing a team across time zones.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear instructions for both technical staff.
- Process Orientation: Proven track record of developing and documenting robust operational procedures, SLAs, and Knowledge Articles.
