Database Developer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Chicago, IL that is seeking a Database Developer with strong experience in mobile-first API design, cloud-native backend development, and secure, scalable data management.

Summary:
This role will build and maintain the backend systems that power mobile applications, ensuring performance, availability, and enterprise-grade security. The ideal candidate is both hands-on and strategic-capable of designing robust technical solutions, maintaining databases, managing integrations, and ensuring backend services consistently meet business needs.

Responsibilities:
* Develop, maintain, and optimize databases across the organization
* Ensure high data availability and ongoing system performance
* Diagnose and resolve database access issues and bottlenecks
* Evaluate and advise on software, hardware, and networking components relevant to database and backend systems
* Recommend database products, protocols, and standards to support new development or procurement efforts
* Design and deploy data tables, queries, forms, and reports
* Conduct data migrations between systems and environments
* Develop, implement, and maintain change-control processes for database modifications
* Apply third-party upgrades and ensure backward compatibility
* Ensure all database and backend systems meet business, performance, and reliability requirements
* Create ad-hoc queries and develop reports to support business operations
* Produce and maintain thorough technical documentation
* Design and build secure, scalable REST/JSON or GraphQL APIs optimized for mobile consumption
* Implement API authentication, authorization, and versioning strategies
* Ensure seamless communication between mobile applications and backend systems
* Develop and operate backend services in cloud environments (e.g., AWS)
* Integrate data stores, external systems, and third-party services
* Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and reliability standards

REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or a related discipline-or equivalent experience

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
