Description
We are seeking a junior-mid level UNIX Administrator to join the Teradata infrastructure team supporting a financial institutions enterprise data platforms. This team is responsible for OS-level and ecosystem support of Teradata environments, ensuring high availability and resiliency as the bank builds out new data centers and gradually migrates to cloud.
This is a hands-on infrastructure role, not a DBA role. The ideal candidate brings strong UNIX skills, shell scripting, and automation experience, plus exposure to Teradata or similar vendor-supported database appliances at the OS level.
Key Responsibilities
Provide OS-level administration for Teradata systems and related ecosystem components in production and non-prod environments.
Support environment and ecosystem health, including:
Server builds and configuration in new data centers
Patching, upgrades, and certificate management
Monitoring, break/fix, and troubleshooting.
Work closely with the Teradata vendor to coordinate changes, review issues, and validate fixes (vendor performs many platform-level changes; this team manages and coordinates).
Participate in a near 247 support model in coordination with offshore/India resources (no guaranteed overtime, but role is part of the production support function).
Partner with senior team members to:
Review and enhance existing shell/bash scripts
Implement automation for routine operational tasks.
Contribute to vulnerability remediation and compliance-driven activities across the Teradata ecosystem.
Handle ad-hoc operational tasks (e.g., password changes, access updates, environment checks) as requests arise from monitoring and internal stakeholders.
Document procedures and share knowledge to help standardize support across the team.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Hands-on UNIX/Linux administration experience in an enterprise environment.
Manager is flexible on "years of experience"; focus is on real, demonstrable work.
Strong shell/bash scripting skills, including the ability to:
Read and understand existing scripts
Troubleshoot and make modifications
Use scripts to automate routine operational tasks.
Experience supporting large, vendor-supplied platforms (e.g., Teradata, Exadata, Netezza, or similar appliances) at the OS/infrastructure level.
Solid understanding of:
Production support concepts (monitoring, incident response, root cause thinking)
Patching/upgrade activities and basic certificate/SSL management workflows.
Proven ability to work in a back-end, infrastructure-focused role (not application development/ETL).
Strong communication skills and comfort working with both senior technical leads and external vendors.
Must be willing and able to work onsite in Charlotte CIC 3 days per week (days flexible).
Nice to Have
Direct experience with Teradata infrastructure specifically.
Background working in large financial services or similarly regulated environments.
Familiarity with enterprise monitoring tools and ticketing/incident systems.
Exposure to data center migrations or building out new hardware in new DCs.
Experience working as part of a global/onshore-offshore support model.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $42.00/hr.
