Role: Public Relations Specialist – Journeyman

Location: Remote

Duration: 12+ Months Contract

Role Overview:

The Journeyman Public Relations Specialist will support IBM/DHS initiatives by gathering and translating project activities, accomplishments, and goals into clear, effective communications for both internal and external audiences. This role focuses on increasing project visibility, enabling collaboration across related initiatives, and promoting a consistent and professional public image. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a technical, cloud-based environment and collaborating closely with engineering and Agile teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect, synthesize, and document project activities, milestones, accomplishments, and future goals.
• Develop and manage upstream and downstream communications for stakeholders and partner teams.
• Draft, edit, and curate content for release across various communication channels and media.
• Support communication strategies that enhance project visibility and alignment with complementary initiatives.
• Analyze web metrics, search trends, and engagement data to recommend improvements in outreach and visibility.
• Employ search marketing tactics and content optimization techniques as appropriate.
• Manage and contribute to social media and digital communication platforms, when applicable.
• Collaborate with Agile managers, engineers, and product teams to ensure technical accuracy of communications.
• Track communication tasks and deliverables using Jira.
• Maintain communication artifacts, content repositories, and documentation in SharePoint.
• Support initiatives operating within a Microsoft Azure–based environment by aligning communications with technical roadmaps and releases.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 3–8 years of experience in public relations, communications, or digital communications roles.
• Strong experience creating professional content for internal and external audiences.
• Ability to translate technical and project-related information into clear, audience-appropriate messaging.
• Experience analyzing web analytics and engagement metrics to drive communication strategies.
• Familiarity with Jira for task tracking and SharePoint for content management.
• Exposure to cloud-based or technical environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Experience or familiarity with PowerApps or low-code platforms is a plus.
• Excellent written, verbal, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

• Experience supporting government or large enterprise programs.
• Background working with cross-functional technical teams (engineering, data, Agile).
• Experience managing or contributing to social media strategy in a professional or enterprise setting.
