Palantir Foundry Architect Utilities Domain

Remote

Long Term Contract

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Foundry Architect with a strong background in the utility industry. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-scale data and analytics architectures using Palantir Foundry to enable data-driven operations, asset management, risk analysis, and strategic decision-making across utility operations, grid management, and customer services.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and implement end-to-end Foundry solutions tailored to utility industry requirements. This includes ingestion, integration, transformation, and analytics of data from diverse sources (SCADA systems, grid sensors, maintenance logs, customer data, regulatory data, IoT/telemetry, etc.).

Design and maintain logical and physical data models (ontologies) within Foundry that reflect utility domain entities e.g., assets (lines, transformers, substations), maintenance records, outage events, customer accounts, grid topology, etc.

Build and manage data pipelines/workflows: ingestion, ETL/ELT, transformation, streaming/batch processing to normalize, clean, and enrich data for downstream analytics or operations teams.

Develop analytic workflows, dashboards, and custom applications on Foundry to support use cases such as asset failure investigation, preventive maintenance planning, emergency response, outage management, regulatory reporting, risk-based work planning, grid performance monitoring, and customer notifications.

Integrate Foundry with existing enterprise systems and cloud/on-premise data ecosystems (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, legacy databases, IoT data sources).

Ensure data governance, security, compliance, and data lineage manage access control, permission models, and compliance with industry regulations and best practices.

Provide technical leadership: mentor junior engineers/data analysts, review code/pipeline design, define best practices for Foundry development, and enforce standards across deployments.

Collaborate with stakeholders (business, operations, management) to translate utility-industry needs into technical requirements and scalable Foundry-based solutions. Present solutions, lead workshops, and support pre-sales or proof-of-concept (PoC) efforts when needed.

Continuously assess existing systems and data architectures to identify opportunities for optimization, performance improvement, or scaling especially as utility operations evolve and data volume increases.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

8+ years of experience in data engineering, enterprise software architecture, or a related domain.

Several years (often 3 5+ or more) of hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry: building pipelines, designing ontologies, data modeling, application development, and integrating data systems.

Strong programming and data skills: Python (or similar) for data transformations, SQL (or Spark SQL), familiarity with big data frameworks (e.g., Spark), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).

Deep understanding of data architecture, ETL/ELT, data governance, security, and compliance.

Excellent communication and stakeholder-management ability capable of translating technical architecture for non-technical business and operations stakeholders.

Desired / Preferred Qualities (especially for Utilities)

Domain knowledge of utility industry: grid operations, asset management, maintenance scheduling, outage & emergency response, regulatory reporting, customer operations. This helps design relevant ontologies, data flows, and analytics for utility-specific workflows.

Experience building solutions for asset maintenance, outage management, risk-based work planning, or similar use cases in utilities.

Familiarity with integrating IoT, sensor data, SCADA systems, geospatial data, and real-time data streams common in utility operations. (While not always explicitly listed in generic Foundry Architect JDs, such integration is often necessary for utilities given their data sources.) this aligns with Foundry s ability to handle multi-modal data (structured, unstructured, streaming, geospatial, IoT) per Foundry s technical capabilities.

Experience working in a hybrid environment (on-premise + cloud), and cross-functional collaboration across engineering, operations, compliance, and business teams.

Leadership and mentorship experience, potentially including guiding junior team members, leading pre-sales technical discovery or PoCs, and defining architecture best practices.

Value & Impact (in Utility Industry Context)

As a Foundry Architect in the utility industry, you enable the company to:

Break down data silos unify data from operations, maintenance, customers, regulatory, sensors, etc. into a single data-driven platform. This enables a single source of truth.

Enable data-driven decision making: predictive maintenance, risk-based work planning, asset management, outage response, regulatory compliance. This can increase reliability, reduce downtime, and optimize costs. This aligns with how Foundry is positioned for utilities: grid operations, asset maintenance, outage management, vegetation management, EV-network expansion, customer care, etc.

Provide scalability and future-proofing: design solutions that can evolve as the utility grows (more sensors, more data, more complexity), while preserving security, governance, and performance.

Empower both technical teams (data engineers, analysts) and non-technical stakeholders (operations, management, regulatory) with dashboards, applications, and analytics that surface actionable insights.
