Title: Backend Engineer

As a Backend Engineer, you will lead by example by writing high-quality code, solving complex technical problems, and helping set a high engineering standard for the team. You will be encouraged to bring forward ideas, challenge existing approaches, and continuously improve systems and processes. Strong communication, collaboration, and influence skills are essential to success in this role.

Responsibilities

Participate on an Agile development team to design, develop, test, implement, and support scalable technical solutions
Apply deep expertise in distributed microservices, big data technologies (e.g., Hive, Presto, Spark, Hadoop), and backend or full-stack systems
Collaborate with cross-functional partners to understand application requirements, testing scenarios, and desired capabilities
Design and develop APIs that deliver large-scale data at interactive speeds using cloud-native architectures
Build and operate systems following cloud architecture best practices and reliability standards
Stay current with emerging technologies, experiment with new tools, and contribute to continuous innovation
Demonstrate strong ownership, sound technical judgment, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused solutions

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of professional experience in software engineering
5+ years of experience with one or more of the following: Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, and relational databases
3+ years of experience working with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Presto
3+ years of experience designing and building RESTful services and writing complex SQL queries
3+ years of experience developing applications on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or equivalent)
Experience with cloud-native and data-focused technology stacks, including containerization, serverless components, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools
Basic proficiency with one or more scripting languages such as Unix shell, Python, or similar
