IT Network Administrator (Hybrid)
Our client, an economic engine for the Portland Region, is looking for an IT Network Administrator for their Portland, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the organization's IT infrastructure systems. This role ensures network reliability, security, and optimal performance while implementing enhancements that support business operations and scalability. You will serve as a critical technical resource, maintaining system stability and responding to infrastructure needs across the organization.

Responsibilities of IT Network Administrator:
- Monitor network performance, availability, and security daily, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact users.
- Maintain and configure network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers
- Perform regular system updates, patches, and firmware upgrades across network infrastructure.
- Assist in managing network security protocols, access controls, VLANs, and segmentation policies.
- Document and maintain document sets for runbooks, network configurations, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Support network segmentation strategies to limit lateral movement and contain potential breaches.
- Maintain and update Access Control Lists (ACLs) and firewall rules following established standards and least-privilege principles.
- Provide escalated support in responding to and resolving network-related incidents and service requests in a timely manner.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues, performance bottlenecks, and network outages.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for circuit issues, hardware failures, and support escalations.
- Participate in security incident investigations involving network infrastructure components.
- Identify opportunities to enhance network performance, reliability, and security.
- Assist in implementing infrastructure improvements and optimization projects.
- Research and provide recommendations on new technologies and solutions to support business needs.
- Support capacity planning activities and provide input for infrastructure scaling.
- Participate in IT projects involving network infrastructure components.
- Assist in remediating security vulnerabilities identified through scanning and assessment activities.
- Implement security hardening measures across network devices following established guidelines.
- Monitor security alerts and respond to potential threats or vulnerabilities with guidance from senior staff.
- Implement and maintain security best practices across network infrastructure.
- Support compliance with organizational security policies and industry standards.
- Assist in conducting regular security assessments and vulnerability scans.
- Maintain audit logs and documentation for compliance requirements.
- Review network traffic patterns, logs, and SIEM alerts to identify suspicious activity or anomalies.
- Support management of network-based security tools including IDS/IPS, web filtering, and email security gateways.
- Assist with penetration testing coordination and vulnerability assessments of network infrastructure.
- Conduct configuration audits to ensure compliance with established security baselines.
- Participate in incident response activities and support forensic investigations as directed.
- Assist in managing certificate lifecycle and encryption protocols across the network.
- Support security awareness activities within the IT team.
Requirements/Qualifications of IT Network Administrator:
- 5+ years of professional experience in network administration.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and network services.
- Knowledge of network security principles including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and zero trust architectures.
- Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Zabbix, ASDM).
- Understanding of wireless networking standards (802.11ac/ax, controller-based systems).
- Understanding of network cabling standards, fiber optics, and physical infrastructure.
- Familiarity with ITIL framework and IT service management best practices.
- Awareness of regulatory compliance requirements (CJIS, PCI?DSS).
- Network security concepts (segmentation, 802.1X, RADIUS).
- Knowledge of encryption standards and protocols (TLS/SSL, IPSec).
- Familiarity with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms and log analysis.
- Awareness of security frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework and CIS Controls.
- Understanding of secure network architecture design principles including defense-in-depth.
- Change management and documentation best practices.
- Ability to configure and manage enterprise switches, routers, firewalls, and network security appliances.
- Support of wireless networks and connectivity issue troubleshooting.
- Understanding, configuring, and troubleshooting firewall security policies.
- Experience with network access control (NAC) and 802.1X authentication.
- Solid troubleshooting methodology and problem solving capabilities.
- Use of diagnostic tools (ping, traceroute, Wireshark, tcpdump), logs, and packet analysis to identify network issues and anomalies.
- Ability to read and create network diagrams and technical documentation.
- Customer service delivery and service delivery processes (ServiceNow).
