Laser Technician

Location: East Providence, RI
Salary: $30.00 USD Hourly - $35.00 USD Hourly
Description: About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Laser Technician to join our production team. In this role, you will build, align, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber lasers ranging from 100W to 6kW across IR and Green wavelengths. You will work hands-on with optical systems in an ISO 7 certified clean room, ensuring precision, safety, and quality at every step.

This job will have the following responsibilities:

• Assemble and disassemble laser systems down to subassembly and piece-part level.
• Align laser resonators and frequency conversion crystals with high accuracy.
• Inspect, clean, and bond optical components including mirrors, beamsplitters, polarizers, waveplates, and crystals.
• Perform calibration, burn-in, and functional testing on complex optical and electro-mechanical systems.
• Use oscilloscopes, CCD cameras, multimeters, and high-power laser systems to validate performance.
• Document engineering processes, test results, and corrective actions in clear, structured reports.
• Collaborate with peers and leadership to solve problems, identify root causes, and recommend improvements.
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace following 5S standards in a controlled clean room environment.
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed to support fielded optical systems.
• Lift and handle equipment and tool bags up to 40 lbs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• 2+ years of experience in optics or laser technology.
• Hands-on experience aligning lasers and complex optical systems.
• Proficiency with laboratory tools (Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, tweezers) in clean environments.
• Experience using oscilloscopes, CCD cameras, multimeters, and high-power laser systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills (root cause analysis, DOE, SPC).
• Working knowledge of blueprint reading and geometric tolerancing.
• Familiarity with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and microscopes.
• Intermediate math and statistics skills, including data manipulation in Excel or equivalent.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings to peers and senior management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with free-space optical alignment and fringe mounting optics.
• Background in ISO 7 clean room operations and 5S methodology.
• Exposure to engineering documentation and reporting best practices.
