Job Description:

The ITS-EPA IV Managed Application, Infrastructure, Networking, Enterprise, and Security Services (MAINES) - Task 2 Infrastructure group provides infrastructure support of EPA Unix, Windows, and VMware information systems on hardware located primarily in NC, DC, and Colorado, supplemental satellite data centers in multiple states, and tenants in Azure and AWS. The Unix Systems Engineer will work as a technical contributor in Operations, Maintenance, Monitoring, Vulnerability Mitigation, Patching, and Documentation

Additional Task Responsibilities:
  • Work on a Unix team supporting 600+ Unix/Linux servers
  • Assist in growing the Linux presence in AWS
  • Participate in 24x7 On-Call rotation and after hours support as required.
  • Read, modify, write, and debug scripts (shell, perl, python, etc.)
  • Install, configure, patch RHEL on a variety of physical and virtual platforms
  • Utilize Splunk for Log Review
  • Perform daily monitoring of servers and maintenance as needed
  • Analyze and develop technical documentation
  • Provide direct support to customers and stakeholders, manage support requests
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • 5 Years Experience supporting RHEL/CentOS Systems
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA6/7/8) Certification
  • Intermediate ability with Satellite Server and Ansible Tower
  • Proven Experience with Linux Hosting in AWS
  • Experience in Vulnerability Mitigation / OS Hardening
  • Creation and configuration of file systems (NFS/CIFS)
  • Expert proficiency in Logical Volume Management
  • Significant Experience with an Enterprise Monitoring/Ticketing System
  • Demonstrated analytic problem-solving ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Time management and organizational aptitude
  • Ability to work independently

Additional Preferred qualifications but not required:
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE6/7/8)
  • Familiar with Oracle ODA Infrastructure (Nodes and VMs)
  • Experience with Terraform
  • Tier 1 VMware Administration
  • Experience with Oracle Linux
  • Resource in a NOC/SOC environment
  • Prior Work on a Government Contract

The likely salary range for this position is $114,750 - $155,250. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
