Role: Virtualization Engineer

Location: 100% Remote

Duration: 6 Months

Overview

Client is seeking a Senior Virtualization Engineer to support a large-scale platform modernization initiative, migrating enterprise workloads from VMware to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization. This role is hands-on and delivery-focused, requiring an engineer who can hit the ground running in a production environment.

This position is not container-focused expertise in OpenShift Virtualization / OpenShift Virtualization Engine and traditional virtualization platforms is critical.

Key Responsibilities

• Strong hands-on experience with VMware, Red Hat OpenShift installation, and use of the Openshift Virtualization Engine operator
• Design, configure, and optimize OpenShift Virtualization environments to host enterprise VM workloads.
• Perform hands-on platform engineering, including build, migration, validation, and performance tuning.
• Integrate and manage compute, storage, and network components across hybrid infrastructure.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, storage, and network teams to ensure seamless platform operations.
• Troubleshoot complex virtualization, storage, and network issues in a production environment.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with VMware and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization / Virtualization Engine.
• Proven experience migrating virtual machines from VMware to an alternative virtualization platform (OpenShift or equivalent).
• Solid understanding of enterprise virtualization concepts (compute, networking, storage, HA/DR).
• Experience working in fast-paced, large-scale infrastructure environments with minimal ramp-up time.

Preferred / Plus Skills

• Experience with HPE servers and Dell storage platforms.
• Strong networking background, especially with Juniper technologies.
• Storage architecture and performance tuning experience.
• Exposure to alternative virtualization platforms beyond VMware.

What Success Looks Like

• Rapid onboarding and immediate contribution to VM migration efforts.
• Stable, performant OpenShift Virtualization environment supporting enterprise workloads.
• Successful cutover of virtual machines from VMware with minimal downtime.
