Process Technology Engineer - St Louis, MO
This is an exempt level position.
Position Summary:
The Process Technology Engineer will apply engineering principles and best practices at the facility with tasks ranging from process design, troubleshooting & optimization to implementation of best practices to the evaluation/implementation of new technologies. The primary purpose of the position is to enable facility success by ensuring that plant process systems are designed, built, operated, and maintained at optimal levels.

The primary purpose of the position is to enable facility success by ensuring that plant process systems are designed, built, operated, and maintained at optimal levels.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operational Presence: Maintain strong floor visibility (approximately 50% of time), participate in daily walks, and lead by example through direct engagement with frontline teams.
- Safety Leadership: Conduct Gemba Walks to integrate people safety into daily operations and foster a plant-wide safety culture.
- Communication & Coverage: Build trust and alignment through visibility, consistent communication, and direct support across all shifts and schedules.
- Safety Culture Development: Demonstrate a firm commitment to leading, developing, and supporting safety initiatives while promoting continuous process safety improvement.
- Benchmarking & Improvement: Evaluate facility performance against internal and external best practices to identify and implement technology and process improvements.
- Project & Portfolio Management: Manage and prioritize the Wave portfolio in coordination with the Plant Manager, Focused Improvement Pillar, and/or the Milling Technology Group as applicable.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and maintain a five-year project portfolio that includes capital budgeting and execution, balancing non-discretionary expenditures (NDE) with productivity and growth initiatives.
- Technology Collaboration: Partner with the appropriate Technology Centers to ensure alignment, standardization, and implementation of best-in-class technologies.
- Innovation & Design: Explore, propose, and champion new process technologies, equipment design enhancements, and supplier innovations.
- Global Integration: Collaborate within the Global Technology Center to standardize operations, share best practices, and deploy emerging technologies.
- Technical Support: Assist plant operations in troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges.
- Goal Alignment: Support the facility in establishing and achieving performance, safety, and efficiency goals.
- Subject Matter Collaboration: Work closely with company experts to apply innovative approaches to plant operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
- Safety Commitment: Demonstrated dedication to working safely and maintaining awareness of the safety of others.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of a variety of process unit operations, including grain handling, wheat cleaning and milling, product conveyance, dust control systems, packaging and bulk vessel loading, automation systems, and warehousing.
- Analytical Capability: Experience with optimization methodologies, data analysis, and process improvement tools.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with plant teams, management, and the Milling Technology Group.
- Technical Literacy: Working knowledge of common process documentation such as P&IDs, control narratives, and equipment specifications.
- Field Engagement: Willingness and ability to spend significant time in plant areas... including exposure to varying temperatures, walking long distances, standing for extended periods, climbing stairs or ladders, and working in confined spaces.
- Problem Solving: Proven ability to partner with plant colleagues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Team Collaboration: Desire to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, including travel to remote plant locations as needed.
- Project Management: Demonstrated success managing capital projects from concept through completion, ensuring timely and practical solutions.
- Drive and Initiative: High level of motivation with a strong results-oriented approach and accountability mindset.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Milling Science, Production Manufacturing, Technology, Food Processing, or a related technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum 3 years' experience with plant process systems at a production facility
- Desired Experience: Operations supervision and/or experience as a Process/Project Engineer
