Position Summary The
Design Engineer II is responsible for conducting comprehensive technical analyses of products and associated tooling to establish well-defined, documented functional design principles and dimensions that meet customer application requirements. This role ensures compatibility between products across multiple product lines and leads quality improvement and productivity initiatives for existing products.
As a key member of the engineering team, the Design Engineer II collaborates closely across departments, performs product audits, and shares technical product knowledge with internal teams to support continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Job Requirements - Conduct detailed technical analyses of products and associated tooling to establish fully defined and documented design principles and dimensions
- Ensure compatibility between products across various product lines
- Lead quality improvement and productivity projects for existing products
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with Marketing, Sales, Engineering, and Production teams
- Conduct product audits and disseminate technical product knowledge to relevant internal functions
- Prepare and deliver technical training for internal teams
- Identify critical product features and dimensions to reduce development cycle time and eliminate design risk areas
- Participate in Kaizen and 5S initiatives to support operational excellence
- Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to assess feasibility
- Create and maintain engineering product documentation, including design standards and tooling standards
- Identify and document future product design opportunities and present them to segment teams for potential intellectual property development
- Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software to complete engineering tasks
- Plan daily, weekly, and monthly workload to align priorities with business objectives
- Develop engineering analyses of products for customer-provided applications
- Design and establish manufacturing specifications for new and adapted products to meet customer application requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Proficiency in drafting technical articles and engineering documentation
- Familiarity with modern problem-solving methodologies (Ishikawa, 8D, DFMEA, DOE, etc.)
- Solidworks experience
- Ability to interpret and analyze technical documents, regulations, and standards
- Effective presentation skills for audiences ranging from mid-management to executive leadership
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical data and materials
- Ability to develop technical training materials and knowledge-sharing content
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Effective communication skills when working with customers and suppliers
- Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time
Education and Experience Qualifications - Bachelor's degree or university program certificate
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment
- Experience in Mechanical Engineering, Testing, Quality, or Product Development
- At least 3 years of application-based experience within the industry
