Industrial Mechanic Objective Restore and rebuild electromechanical machinery including motor assemblies, pumping equipment, and drive systems to factory specifications. Deliver reliable equipment performance through methodical fault diagnosis, precision component servicing, and operational verification.
Responsibilities - Review service documentation to assess unit background, scope limitations, budget allocation, failure descriptions, and serviceability projections
- Apply AC and DC diagnostic protocols to electromechanical apparatus for defect identification and root cause determination
- Dismantle machinery using structured procedures while recording part sequences, installation configuration, and damage assessment
- Clean subassemblies through staged processes including solvent tanks, pressurized steam systems, chemical immersion baths, and bead blasting equipment
- Identify appropriate replacement hardware through dimensional analysis and specification matching
- Process material requests via established ordering systems with supervisory authorization
- Service or substitute deteriorated electromechanical elements such as rolling element bearings, commutator brushes, brush spring assemblies, conductor terminations, reduction gearing, elastomeric seals, turbine wheels, switching devices, friction brakes, coupling rotors, speed sensors, ventilation impellers, and frame enclosures
- Verify rebuilt equipment through output testing and operational qualification procedures
- Document repair activities with complete records submitted within established timeframes
- Utilize measurement instruments, load test platforms, and specialized service tools
- Follow mandated safety practices including required personal protective equipment particularly for eye and auditory hazards
- Handle material positioning, fastener tensioning, precision adjustment, and load stabilization for heavy mechanical components
- Sustain orderly work environment per facility housekeeping expectations
- Collaborate with fellow technicians on technical and general assignments as directed by operations
- Complete supplementary technical or support duties per management instruction
Requirements - Secondary education completion or recognized equivalency
- Certified practical training program in motor repair or electromechanical systems maintenance
- Basic aptitude for mechanical problem-solving
- Demonstrated ability to absorb, apply, and remember technical training content and workplace safety standards under supervision
- Frequent handling and carrying of items weighing 50 pounds; verbal communication capability
- Routine lifting and movement of 25-pound objects; prolonged periods of standing and ambulation; fine motor control for detailed manipulation and overhead work
- Occasional handling of objects exceeding 100 pounds; work from ladders or uneven surfaces; flexing, crouching, and restricted space entry
- Distance vision clarity of 20 feet minimum with corrective aids if needed; close-range focus, panoramic awareness, three-dimensional perception, and variable focus adjustment
- Competence operating manual implements and electrically powered tooling
