Informix Database Administrator

Position summary

The Informix Database Administrator (MidLevel) is responsible for administering and optimizing Informix databases that support hotel propertymanagement, reservations, POS, and financial systems for a Marylandbased hospitality client.
This role is hybrid with an expectation of being onsite three days per week at the client s Maryland location, supporting missioncritical, 247 guestfacing systems.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and tune Informix databases (development, QA, production) for PMS, CRS, POS, billing, and reporting applications used across hotel properties.

• Perform upgrades, patches, index and statistics maintenance, space and capacity management, and configuration changes to meet performance and availability SLAs.

• Design and execute backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures (including ontape/onbar and log management), and participate in periodic DR tests.

• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to performance, locking/contention, data integrity, and connectivity in coordination with application, infrastructure, and network teams.

• Assist with schema design, stored procedures, and query optimization for new features, integrations (channel managers, payment gateways, reporting feeds), and data interfaces.

• Implement and maintain database security (users, roles, privileges) in line with corporate standards and hospitality compliance requirements such as PCI for payment data.

• Support database change management: review DDL and data changes, support deployments during maintenance windows, and maintain uptodate documentation and runbooks.

• Participate in an oncall rotation to support critical hotel systems and occasional evening or weekend maintenance activities.

Required qualifications

• 3 6 years of handson experience as a production Informix DBA, preferably supporting highvolume transactional or hospitality environments.

• Strong understanding of Informix architecture (instances, dbspaces, chunks, logs), backup/recovery utilities, and performancetuning techniques.

• Proficiency in SQL and Informix SPL, including experience analyzing execution plans and tuning complex queries and indexes.

• Experience administering Informix on Linux/Unix, including filesystem, storage, and OSlevel performance considerations.

• Prior work in 247 or highavailability environments and participation in an oncall rotation.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with hotel operations, application support, and infrastructure teams in an onsite environment.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.

• Experience with hospitality systems (PMS, POS, CRS, revenue management, loyalty) and associated data flows.

• Exposure to other RDBMS platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) in mixed database environments.

• Scripting skills (shell, Python, or Perl) to automate monitoring, health checks, and maintenance tasks.
