Role: Lower Environments System Support Lead
An elite Chicago trading firm is seeking a seasoned technical leader to oversee the stability, reliability, and alignment of non-production environments with production standards. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineering, QA, release management, and operations teams to ensure lower environments remain highly available, consistent, and ready to support quality releases.
You will guide a dedicated team, minimize downtime, and implement processes that foster trust and efficiency across development and testing workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Drive consistency between development, staging, and production environments through standardized tooling and configurations.
Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response strategies for non-production systems.
Reduce outages and improve reliability during testing cycles.
Track and report environment health metrics, including downtime and performance improvements.
Partner with cross-functional teams to share best practices and maintain operational excellence.
Mentor and lead the environments team to deliver high-quality support and solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience managing and troubleshooting Linux-based systems.
- Hands-on experience with scripting and automation (Python, Java, JavaScript).
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, including multicast communication.
- Proven leadership experience in managing technical teams or projects.
- Demonstrated ability to implement operational best practices in development and testing environments.
- Expertise in incident response and root cause analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging stakeholders and technical teams.
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with programming and scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell).
- Experience with cloud platforms, containerization, and monitoring tools (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Knowledge of distributed messaging systems (RabbitMQ or similar).
- Exposure to electronic trading systems is a plus.
