Role: NestJS Backend Architect
Location: New York City Metropolitan Area
Role Overview:
The NestJS Backend Architect is responsible for defining and governing backend architecture for NestJS-driven API platform, ensuring scalability, security, performance, and alignment with enterprise architecture standards. The role works closely with Tech Leads, frontend architects, integration teams, and clients to translate business and platform requirements into robust, future-ready backend solutions.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
- Expert-level JavaScript (Node.js runtime)
- Deep architectural expertise in the NestJS framework
- Advanced proficiency in TypeScript
- Proven experience designing large-scale, API-first backend architectures
- Strong expertise in RESTful API design patterns, versioning, and governance
- Strong hands-on and design experience with MongoDB (data modeling, indexing, performance tuning)
- Experience defining unit testing, integration testing, and quality standards
- Experience defining and governing API documentation standards (Swagger / Open API)
- Strong understanding of backend NFRs like performance, security, scalability, and resilience patterns
- Experience designing BFF, microservices, or modular monolith architecture
Mandatory Architecture, Leadership & Collaboration Skills:
- Provide Architectural oversight of NextJS integration, ensuring NestJS APIs and NextJS components are aligned and function cohesively.
- Ownership of backend architectural decisions and technical direction
- Experience working closely with enterprise and solution architects
- Ability to guide and mentor Tech Leads and senior engineers
- Strong experience in client-facing architectural discussions
- Ability to translate business, platform, and non-functional requirements into technical architecture
- Experience driving architecture reviews, design governance, and technical standards
- Strong stakeholder management, collaboration, and communication skills
- Strong understanding of frontend architectures (React / Angular) and API consumption patterns
- Experience working in agile / scaled agile delivery models
Complementary Skills:
- Experience designing integration architectures with external and internal systems
- Exposure to cloud-native architectures (AWS / Azure / Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and platform engineering concepts
- Exposure to caching, messaging, and event-driven architecture
- Awareness of security standards and compliance (OAuth, OWASP, enterprise security models)
