The overall function of this position is managing the highly complex and technical district-wide training programs for District 08. The employee is responsible for maintaining a highly trained and qualified workforce of employees, consultants, and contractors. The employee is required to interpret a variety of complex and technical concepts and to possess the skills and demonstrate strategies needed to transfer these concepts throughout all levels of employees in the District.
This is a hands-on field role that requires attention to detail, safety awareness, and strong documentation skills.
Position is located in
Rapides, District 08/Unit 001 and report to
Lab Engineer.
Minimum QualificationsPossession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology.

Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:Depending on assignment, Engineering Tech Consultant may:
- Serves as a direct report to the Lab Engineer (Engineer 6) by administering the operations of the LA DOTD District 08 Training Unit.
- Mastering and maintaining multiple databases such as SAP/LEO/LaGov/LSO; ECC Navigation and Reporting; DTRN as well as the Non-DOTD Construction Inspection Training System (CITS) to track and store training accomplishments and to run reports for personnel actions.
- Develops and delivers annual certification schools in the areas of asphalt, concrete, and base course inspection.
- Serves as a subject matter expert or technical advisor on the areas of construction and materials testing and inspection, training operations and the department's quality assurance program.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:Compensation: Engineering Tech Consultant - $53,498.00 Annual + premium pay $1.00/Hours Worked
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
