IT Manager, Business Applications – Salesforce / Institutional Advancement

Position Overview
Temple University is seeking an experienced IT Manager, Business Applications – Institutional Advancement to lead technology solutions supporting fundraising, alumni engagement, donor relations, advancement services, and constituent management.
This role combines IT management, Salesforce application leadership, business applications, reporting, data analysis, and hands-on development. The Manager will lead a team of three technical resources while serving as the primary technology partner and liaison between Institutional Advancement and Information Technology.
A key responsibility is participating as both a developer and manager in the Ellucian Banner Advance conversion to Kindsight Ascend (Salesforce). The successful candidate should understand Salesforce administration/configuration, application integrations, reporting, APIs, SQL, workflow automation, software development lifecycle, and enterprise application management.
This position is ideal for a technology leader who can manage people and priorities while remaining technically engaged in Salesforce and business application initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate as a developer and manager in the Ellucian Banner Advance to Kindsight Ascend (Salesforce) conversion.
- Lead Salesforce application support, configuration, administration, enhancements, and ongoing optimization for Institutional Advancement.
- Support Salesforce capabilities related to fundraising, alumni engagement, donor relations, constituent management, and advancement operations.
- Manage integrations between Salesforce and enterprise applications, databases, and other institutional systems.
- Oversee reporting and analytics solutions to provide accurate, timely, and actionable information to Institutional Advancement leadership.
- Serve as the primary technology liaison between Institutional Advancement and Information Technology.
- Build strong relationships with advancement leadership, business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and consultants.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of three technical resources supporting reporting, application support, and application development.
- Establish team priorities, assign resources, manage workloads, and track project progress.
- Manage application enhancements, business requirements, technical priorities, and competing stakeholder requests.
- Coordinate application upgrades, releases, testing, deployments, and change management.
- Ensure business applications remain reliable, supportable, documented, and aligned with institutional requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve business processes through application enhancements, integrations, reporting, and workflow automation.
- Manage relationships with vendors, consultants, and internal IT teams.
- Establish and maintain application documentation, procedures, standards, and support processes.
- Promote a collaborative, customer-focused environment with an emphasis on continuous improvement and professional development.
- Provide technical guidance and participate directly in application development and problem-solving activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of progressive IT experience with increasing responsibility in business applications, software development, application management, or related technology functions.
- Demonstrated experience managing or leading business application teams.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and change management practices.
- Hands-on experience with Salesforce application configuration, administration, development, or support.
- Experience with SQL and enterprise reporting/analytics.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting/BI platforms.
- Experience with workflow automation and business process improvement.
- Understanding of data integration technologies, APIs, and enterprise application integrations.
- Experience coordinating application upgrades, releases, testing, deployments, and production support.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong customer service and stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to work effectively with both technical teams and business leadership.
