JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a detail-oriented Benefits Data Remediation Contractor to support employee benefits data cleanup, validation, reconciliation, and reporting initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong Microsoft Excel skills, experience analyzing large employee or benefits datasets, and an understanding of pension administration, payroll, HR operations, or employee benefits.
This role will support pension plan termination and certification activities, along with data remediation initiatives involving retiree medical, life insurance, and other legacy benefit programs. The individual will work closely with HR, Payroll, Benefits, Legal, and external vendors to ensure participant data is accurate, complete, consistent, and audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities

Review, analyze, validate, and correct employee and participant benefits data.
Reconcile data across pension administration, HRIS, payroll, and benefits systems.
Identify and resolve missing, inconsistent, or inaccurate demographic, employment, compensation, and benefits information.
Support pension plan termination, certification, and related data cleanup initiatives.
Prepare and validate participant data files for actuaries, auditors, recordkeepers, and other stakeholders.
Investigate data discrepancies and document corrections to support audit and compliance requirements.
Coordinate with external vendors to locate missing or former plan participants and beneficiaries.
Assist with participant outreach related to pension, retiree medical, and life insurance benefits.
Perform data quality checks and track outstanding remediation issues through resolution.
Develop and maintain Excel reports, reconciliation spreadsheets, and remediation status trackers.
Collaborate with HR, Payroll, Benefits, Legal, and external vendors to resolve data-related issues.
Maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive employee and benefits information.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of experience in employee benefits administration, retirement plans, payroll, HR operations, data management, or a related field.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP or equivalent lookup functions, data validation, reconciliation, sorting, filtering, and analysis of large datasets.
Experience reviewing, analyzing, and correcting large employee, payroll, pension, or benefits datasets.
Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to research discrepancies across multiple systems and identify appropriate resolutions.
Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience handling confidential employee and benefits information.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Defined Benefit (DB) pension plan administration.
Exposure to pension plan termination, pension certification, or pension risk transfer initiatives.
Experience supporting pension or employee benefits data remediation projects.
Understanding of ERISA regulations and pension compliance requirements.
Experience working with pension recordkeepers, actuaries, benefits administrators, or external vendors.
Familiarity with lost participant searches and death audit processes.
Knowledge of HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration platforms.
Experience with retiree medical and life insurance benefits administration.
