Job Description

We're looking for a Director of Design Engineering to lead our front-end engineering team and scale our design system (designsystem.citizensbank.com) into a world-class platform that powers efficiency and consistency across the enterprise.
As Director of Design Engineering, you'll build and mentor a team of engineers who bridge design and technology-delivering reusable, coded components that bring our design standards to life. You'll partner closely with UX Design, Accessibility, Research, Product, and Engineering leadership to scale and expand a team truly dedicated to Front End expertise.

What you'll do
- Lead, grow, and mentor a team of front-end engineers focused on Front End development expertise.
- Driving the success of the Citizens Design System by managing intake of requests, working with internal partners, and helping prioritize system features.
- Drive the development and adoption of scalable, reusable components that power Citizens' design system.
- Partners with design and product teams to validate, test, and optimize patterns for usability and performance.
- Advocate standards and design system adoption across the enterprise in roadshows, education, presentations, and building relationships across the organization.
What we're looking for
- 10+ years in front-end development experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
- Proven experience building and scaling design systems in enterprise environments.
- Deep technical expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, TypeScript (or similar frameworks).
- Understanding of Mobile Development practices in iOS and Android, using Cotlin and Swift.
- A collaborative leader who can inspire teams and influence across design, product, and engineering.
- Knowledge and understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) is a plus.
