About the Role
We're seeking Email Security specialists to deliver high-impact client projects focused on secure email gateway implementations, migrations, and security posture assessments. This is a consulting position working directly with enterprise clients to architect and deploy email security solutions.
This is NOT a SIEM, SOC, monitoring, or general Azure administration role. You'll be hands-on implementing and optimizing email gateway platforms.
Compensation & Work Model
- Rate: $85/hour for certified engineers (see certification details below)
- Work Model: 100% Remote
- Type: Independent Consultant/1099 Contract
- Volume: Project-based with ongoing opportunities for strong performers

What You'll Actually Do
- Lead enterprise migrations to Mimecast, Proofpoint, or Barracuda platforms
- Execute MX record cutovers, configure email authentication (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), and troubleshoot mail flow issues
- Implement Brand Exploit Protect (BEP) and anti-impersonation solutions to prevent domain spoofing attacks
- Conduct Email Security Health Checks: audit bypass rules, optimize Targeted Threat Protection (TTP), identify security gaps
- Configure advanced threat detection policies and URL rewriting rules
- Document configurations and deliver client-facing technical reports
- Provide knowledge transfer and training to client IT teams
Required Qualifications
Eligibility
- U.S. Citizenship required (due to client security requirements)
Technical Experience (Non-Negotiable)
- 3+ years in email security with hands-on platform experience (Mimecast, Proofpoint, Barracuda, or equivalent)
- Proven track record of email gateway migrations (not just administration)
- Deep understanding of:
- MX record management and DNS email routing
- SPF/DKIM/DMARC configuration and troubleshooting
- SMTP protocol and email authentication flows
- Anti-phishing and anti-spoofing technologies
Certification Requirement for $85/Hr Rate
You must hold at least one current/active certification from:
- Mimecast: Email Security Implementation Specialist or Email Security Administrator
- Proofpoint: Email Protection Deployment Specialist or Professional
- Barracuda: Email Security Gateway Administrator or Engineer
- Yubico: YubiKey Certified Professional (YKCP)
Not certified yet but have the experience? Apply anyway! If you demonstrate strong hands-on expertise, we'll sponsor your certification and reimburse all costs upon passing.
Highly Valued Skills
- Brand Exploit Protect (BEP) or similar impersonation protection deployment experience
- Experience performing Email Security Health Checks or compliance audits
- Knowledge of Targeted Threat Protection (TTP) tuning and optimization
- Understanding of email security in hybrid/M365 environments
- Experience with email archiving migrations (Quest, Mimecast Archive, Enterprise Vault)
- Client-facing communication skills for enterprise stakeholders
- PowerShell/scripting skills for email security automation
