Position Overview

The QA Designer acts as the guardian of visual and interactive quality between Design and Engineering. The role ensures development builds achieve the design intent and adhere to visual specifications for software products across both native and third-party platforms. The QA Designer plays a key role in ensuring the beauty and excellence of software while advocating for the adoption of design interaction patterns and unit standards.

Must Have

• Strong Design Background: Proven UI/UX design expertise with a trained eye for visual detail and pixel-perfect execution.
• Strong Technical Proficiency: Ability to install builds, set up testing environments, and navigate Apple OS (macOS, iOS) fluently.
• Tool Proficiency: High skill level with core design tools, specifically Figma and Sketch, for comparing builds to specs.
• High degree of proficiency with operating systems and design tools like Sketch, Figma, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
• Technically proficient, critical thinker with a trained eye for design details.
• Creative thinker, fast learner, and problem solver with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Team player with a strong commitment to world-class design quality as a key part of the software development cycle.
• Strong organizational skills combined with a proven ability to identify pixel-level visual UI inconsistencies across multiple concurrent projects with minimal direction.
• Self-motivated and adaptable in a fast-paced design studio.

Nice to Have

• Experience in a Software/Design Tech Company: Background at a design-focused software company is ideal.
• Previous experience with iOS and macOS AP, Xcode, and quality assurance processes are a plus.
• Experience with Apple Platforms: Prior work with iOS/macOS applications and their design paradigms.
• Desire to keep up with emerging technology, including advancements in AI/ML and automation, coupled with a curiosity-driven, innovation-forward perspective.

Disqualifiers

• Lack of Proficiency with Apple OS: Inability to navigate and work efficiently within the macOS/iOS environment is a deal-breaker.

Day-to-Day / Job Overview

On a typical day, the QA Designer will:

• Act as the guardian of visual and interaction quality between Design and Engineering.
• Receive new feature builds or updates from Engineering for products like Apple TV, Music, and the Apple TV app/platform.
• Install builds and set up the testing environment on Apple devices/OS.
• Capture screenshots and meticulously compare the implemented build against the original Figma/Sketch design specs to check for pixel-perfect accuracy (e.g., font usage, spacing, alignment).
• Raise visual inconsistencies to the greater design team.
• Advocate for adoption of design interaction patterns and unit standards.
• Collaborate on an ongoing basis with cross-functional teams from Engineering, Product Design, Editorial, and Production to understand the products from all angles — including limitations that may have been originally overlooked during the design process.
• Provide design guidance to others clearly, diplomatically, and concisely.
