Schedule: Monday-Friday, 5:00 AM start
Hours: 50+ hours/week (mandatory overtime)
Pay Rate: $23/hr
Position Overview- IES Commercial is seeking motivated and dependable Communications Technician I candidates to support a large-scale, multi-million-dollar commercial construction project in Chandler, AZ. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals looking to build a long-term career in the low-voltage and structured cabling industry.
- Technicians will assist with cable installation, termination, testing, pathway support, construction site work, and equipment installation while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesStructured Cabling Installation- Install work-area outlets in floor monuments, modular furniture, and wall locations.
- Route and pull cable using fish tape and industry-standard pulling methods.
- Perform cable organization tasks: dressing, forming, labeling, and determining proper slack.
Pathways & Support Infrastructure- Properly suspend and support cable using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems.
- Build and install telecommunications closets, including backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber hardware.
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable pathways as required.
Firestopping & Penetrations- Perform fire-stopping on fire-rated walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through penetrations.
Termination & Testing- Terminate low-voltage devices and support Cat5/Cat6 cabling termination and testing.
Documentation & Administrative Tasks- Complete all IES paperwork accurately (timesheets, work orders, change orders, material transfers, tool transfers).
- Follow all company, customer, and industry quality and safety regulations.
QualificationsRequired- 0-1 year of experience in telecommunications, construction, or related technical field.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and project documentation (or willingness to learn).
- Ability to work from ladders, at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Able to lift 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to see color codes, read small print, and identify audio signals.
Preferred- Basic construction knowledge.
- Valid driver's license meeting company driving standards.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Experience with low-voltage cabling.
Required ToolsTechnicians must bring their own basic tool kit, including:
- Screwdrivers (regular & Phillips)
- Drywall saw
- Torpedo level
- Tape measure
- Snips with belt sheath
- Needle-nose pliers & channel locks
- Hammer
- Wrench set
- Cable stripper
- Flashlight
- Gloves
Steel-toe boots required.

Work Environment- Indoor and outdoor work on an active commercial construction site.
- Work performed before HVAC installation-limited climate control.
- Secure facility requiring additional BG and drug screening.
- Significant walking-comfortable insoles recommended.
- Hot conditions expected; water provided on site, but techs should bring a cooler with water.
Additional Information- Safety is the #1 priority at this site.
- Mandatory overtime (50+ hours/week).
- Not open to sub-vendors.
- Drug test required.
