Backend Engineer
Orem, UT
Long-Term Contract: $75-$100 per hour
Our client is in search of a to support the design and development of a secure, scalable privacy compliance reporting system. This role focuses on building backend infrastructure that supports data governance, records management, and compliance reporting while ensuring strong privacy protections for sensitive data. The ideal candidate is passionate about backend engineering, cloud technologies, data security, and building solutions that translate complex regulatory requirements into reliable technical systems.
Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain backend APIs and services to support secure data ingestion, processing, and compliance reporting
- Build and optimize database schemas to store, manage, and query compliance-related data with strong encryption and access controls
- Deploy, configure, and manage cloud infrastructure, including serverless components and scalable compute and storage resources
- Integrate AI-enabled services and APIs to support automated workflows while maintaining audit trails and data sovereignty
- Collaborate closely with frontend developers, data scientists, and subject matter experts to implement backend business logic
- Implement authentication, authorization, and security best practices to protect sensitive and personally identifiable information
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and scale backend services to meet growing demand
- Participate in agile development practices, including sprint planning, code reviews, and technical documentation
- Ensure backend solutions align with privacy, compliance, and data governance standards
Required Skills: Backend Development: - 3+ years of experience with server-side languages such as Python (preferred for AI integrations), , Node.js, Java, or Go
- Experience building RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs and microservices architectures
Database & Data Management: - Strong experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL solutions (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB)
- Proficiency in database design, optimization, indexing, and ORM frameworks
- Experience with data warehousing or analytics platforms is a plus
Cloud & DevOps : - Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS), including compute, storage, networking, and monitoring services
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
Security & Compliance: - Knowledge of secure coding practices and privacy-focused development
- Familiarity with data privacy and regulatory frameworks (e.g., government or compliance-driven systems)
- Experience handling sensitive or regulated data preferred
Additional Technical Skills: - Git-based version control
- Containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Basic understanding of AI/ML service integration
Soft Skills & Qualifications: - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to collaborate in cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience
