Job Summary

The Civil Construction Engineer SME provides expert-level technical leadership and guidance across civil construction projects. This role ensures engineering excellence, constructability, compliance with standards, and optimization of construction methods, cost, quality, and schedule. The SME acts as a trusted advisor to project teams, stakeholders, and management throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Expertise

• Serve as the primary subject matter expert in civil construction engineering (earthworks, concrete, structures, roads, drainage, utilities, etc.).

• Review and validate engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and construction methodologies.

• Provide expert input on constructability, value engineering, and risk mitigation.

• Resolve complex technical and construction challenges on active projects.

Project Support

• Support project planning, execution, and closeout phases.

• Review project schedules, cost estimates, and material selections for technical accuracy.

• Conduct site visits to assess progress, quality, safety, and compliance.

• Support claims analysis, change orders, and dispute resolution with technical expertise.

Standards, Quality & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements.

• Develop and maintain construction standards, best practices, and technical guidelines.

• Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance processes.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Work closely with design teams, construction managers, contractors, and clients.

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site teams.

• Participate in technical reviews, design workshops, and lessons-learned sessions.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for innovation, process improvement, and cost optimization.

• Stay current with industry trends, construction technologies, and regulatory changes.

• Support training and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the organization.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience

• 10–15+ years of progressive experience in civil construction engineering.

• Proven experience delivering large-scale infrastructure or construction projects.

• Demonstrated expertise in one or more civil disciplines (structures, highways, utilities, geotechnical, etc.).

Certifications (Preferred)

• Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent.

• PMP or other project management certification is a plus.

Skills & Competencies
