Role: Senior Python Engineer (CloudFormation / DevOps)
Contract: 4 months (high likelihood of extension)
Location: Richmond, VA or McLean, VA - Onsite 3 days/week

Job description:
We are seeking a Senior Python Engineer with strong DevOps and AWS CloudFormation expertise to support infrastructure automation and cloud modernization initiatives. This role will focus on building a new WAF pipeline, migrating IaC from Terraform to CloudFormation, and optimizing ECS-based deployments.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Python-based automation scripts for infrastructure provisioning and operational workflows.
Design, author, and manage AWS CloudFormation templates, including stack creation, updates, and troubleshooting.
Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines supporting infrastructure-as-code and application deployments.
Lead migration efforts from Terraform to AWS CloudFormation.
Configure and optimize ECS clusters, services, and task definitions.
Implement and manage application and network load balancing (ALB/NLB) with ECS integrations.
Dockerize environments and improve deployment efficiency, scalability, and resiliency.
Configure ECS services for automated tasks, monitoring, alerts, and scaling.

Required Skills

Strong hands-on Python development experience for automation and infrastructure scripting.
Advanced expertise with AWS CloudFormation (template authoring, stack lifecycle management, troubleshooting).
Solid DevOps experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and IaC practices.
Hands-on experience with AWS ECS, Docker, and containerized workloads.
Strong knowledge of AWS load balancing (ALB/NLB) and networking concepts.

Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience with AWS security services such as WAF, IAM, and GuardDuty.
Familiarity with Node.js for cross-functional development support.
Exposure to monitoring, logging, and alerting tools within AWS.
