Job Details
York Space Systems was founded to radically improve spacecraft affordability and reliability, transforming, and enabling next- generation space mission operations worldwide. Today, York is one of the most innovative aerospace companies, specializing in end-to-end customer solutions and the rapid production of spacecraft platforms. York's complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York's existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively. We're looking to expand our team across the board.
Application inquiries please direct to:
We are seeking a highly motivated intern to take ownership of developing a spacecraft electrical power system simulation in Python-from design through verification-and to thrive in hands-on problem-solving during rapid prototyping. The ideal candidate is a rigorous systems thinker who proactively identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves modeling challenges across the full lifecycle of software development. You'll be embedded in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment, working side-by-side with engineers to model, test, and refine a simulation of spacecraft power dynamics. You must be capable of quickly diagnosing and resolving technical issues in real-time and driving solutions that keep the project timeline on track.

Responsibilities
- Implement a Python-based Coulomb counter engine for tracking spacecraft battery charge and discharge.
- Develop load models for constant current, constant power, and constant resistance components.
- Implement common load metadata via class inheritance (e.g., name, UID, subsystem, parent load).
- Add composite load support for aggregating multiple load types.
- Track and report average power over time for each load.
- Model spacecraft power sources:
- Battery operating at voltage corresponding to its state of charge.
- Solar array following its IV curve at the current battery voltage.
- Integrate power source and load models into a time-step simulation loop.
- Export simulation results to CSV/JSON for external analysis and Grafana visualization.
- Participate in weekly reviews to test, validate, and improve model accuracy.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related technical field.
- Familiarity with Python programming and object-oriented design.
- Basic understanding of electrical power systems and circuit theory (voltage, current, resistance, power).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with guidance.
- Good written communication for documenting code and simulation assumptions.
Benefits
In addition to compensation, York Space Systems is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance along with PTO and a 401K.
