Job Summary
The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for leading business and functional requirements activities for complex enterprise systems. This role supports the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), working closely with business stakeholders, development teams, QA, and architecture groups to deliver high-quality, compliant, and scalable solutions. The analyst will drive requirements analysis, functional design, testing, documentation, and user adoption in Agile and hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead business requirements analysis, gap analysis, and documentation of detailed functional requirements for complex systems.
- Write high-level functional requirement documents, functional design specifications, and technical documentation.
- Execute full SDLC activities, including requirements gathering, design review, development support, testing, implementation, and post-deployment support.
- Develop functional design documents and coordinate stakeholder reviews and approvals.
- Create user stories, acceptance criteria, and task breakdowns to support Agile development teams.
- Design and develop prototypes, mockups, flowcharts, and screen layouts to validate system requirements with users.
- Participate in and support large-scale Agile projects, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and sprint reviews.
- Design, develop, and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for applications and subsystems.
- Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), post-implementation testing, and defect resolution.
- Maintain defect tracking logs and assist in differentiating between defects and new enhancement requests.
- Prepare test reports, metrics, and status updates for business and technical stakeholders.
- Assist with Enterprise Architecture Solution Assessments (EASA), hosting documentation, firewall rules, and infrastructure-related requests.
- Support the design and documentation of IT solutions aligned with State of Michigan standard technologies.
- Draft Local Change Board and Request for Change (RFC) documentation for application and infrastructure changes.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, training materials, and end-user manuals.
- Provide production support by monitoring applications during peak periods and assisting users with issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements when handling sensitive data.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of business analysis experience supporting complex computer systems.
- 8+ years of experience developing detailed functional requirements and specifications.
- 8+ years of experience designing and executing test plans and test cases.
- 5+ years of experience working in Agile environments, including test-driven development (TDD).
- 8+ years of experience creating, updating, and maintaining system and technical documentation.
- 8+ years of experience developing training plans, user guides, and instructional materials.
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps or similar tools for requirements management, user stories, and test case tracking.
- Strong experience supporting systems involving HIPAA-regulated data.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
