Role Overview
We are seeking a versatile Infrastructure Engineer to manage and optimize our hybrid IT environment. The ideal candidate is a "dual-threat" engineer who possesses deep expertise in Unix/Linux administration (specifically AIX and RHEL) but is also comfortable deploying and managing workloads in AWS.
You will play a critical role in maintaining the stability of our core on-premise systems (Power Systems, SAN, TSM) while actively supporting our cloud migration and hybrid connectivity initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Administration (AIX & Linux) – Primary Focus
Manage, patch, and upgrade IBM AIX (v7.1/7.2/7.3) environments running on Power Systems.
Administer Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) servers, including user management, security hardening, and kernel patching.
Manage virtualization using PowerVM, VIOS, and HMC (Hardware Management Console).
Perform LPAR creating, cloning, and dynamic resource allocation (DLPAR).
Develop and maintain Shell/Bash scripts to automate routine maintenance tasks.
2. Cloud Infrastructure (AWS) – Primary Focus
Provision and manage AWS resources including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, and EBS.
Configure and maintain hybrid connectivity (Direct Connect/VPN) between on-premise AIX/Linux servers and the AWS Cloud.
Implement cloud monitoring (CloudWatch) and assist with "Lift and Shift" or re-platforming migration projects.
Manage security groups and ensure cloud environments comply with corporate security policies.
3. Storage & Backup (SAN & TSM) – Secondary Focus
Manage enterprise backup operations using IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM); ensure successful backup/restore of AIX/Linux clients.
Administer SAN Storage environments (zoning, LUN masking, and provisioning storage to AIX/Linux hosts).
Troubleshoot storage multipathing and fiber channel connectivity issues.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in Unix/Linux System Administration.
AIX Expertise: Strong knowledge of AIX, NIM servers, VIOS, and HMC management.
Linux Expertise: Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration in a production environment.
AWS Skills: Experience with core AWS services (EC2, S3, VPC) and understanding of cloud networking.
Scripting: Ability to write and maintain Shell/Bash scripts for automation.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
Storage: Experience with storage arrays (e.g., IBM FlashSystem, EMC, NetApp, or Pure Storage).
Automation: Exposure to Ansible, Terraform, or Python scripting.
Certifications:
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX.
Soft Skills
Strong troubleshooting mindset with a focus on root cause analysis.
Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment.
Excellent communication skills for documenting changes and coordinating with application teams.
