Title: Senior BizOps Engineer (BMC CMDB Admin)
Location: ST LOUIS, MI
The Configuration Management Inventory BizOps team is looking for a BizOps SRE (CMDB Administrator) who is experienced in BMC Configuration Management Database (CMDB) administration with practical experience of BMC CMDB tool (on-prem or SaaS based). A perfect candidate would also have experience supporting the BMC Discovery application and showcase some linux administration experience.
In this role you will manage, maintain and evolve our BMC Helix CMDB, focusing on data accuracy, application modelling and CMDB governance involving tasks such as CI/Relationship modeling, normalization/reconciliation, user access, upgrades, reporting, and integrations with other systems such as Helix ITSM and BMC Discovery.
Experience in working across global development, operations, and product teams to prioritize needs and to build relationships is a must. Experience with BMC Discovery and Linux is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
CMDB Administration & Governance
- Administer and maintain the BMC Helix/Remedy CMDB across environments, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, consistency.
- Define and manage CI classes, attributes, relationships, and normalization rules; design and maintain reconciliation jobs/policies to prevent duplicates and data anamolies.
- Monitor and optimize Atrium Integrator (AI) jobs, Normalization Engine, and Reconciliation Engine performance; troubleshoot failures, timeouts, and data quality issues.
- Implement and enforce CMDB governance, including Product Catalog standardization, CI lifecycle states, access controls, and audit policies.
- Develop and maintain CMDB health dashboards and KPIs (e.g., coverage, correctness, compliance, staleness, relationship density).
Integrations & Data Quality
- Build and support integrations between CMDB and BMC Helix ITSM, Discovery, Asset Management, and third-party sources via Atrium Integrator, REST APIs, CSV/XML
- Drive data normalization, reconciliation, impact modeling, and federation strategies for CI sources
- Conduct regular data quality assessments, root-cause analysis, and remediation plans for orphaned CIs, broken relationships, improper classifications, and stale attributes.
Operational Support
- Provide L2/L3 operational support for CMDB incidents, service requests, and changes; adhere to Mastercard ITSM processes (Incident/Problem/Change/Configuration Management).
- Create and maintain operation playbooks, SOPs, and knowledge articles; develop automation scripts (where feasible) to improve data management and streamline support.
- Perform release management tasks related to CMDB changes (product catalog updates, recon models, normalization rules, class extensions), including impact analysis and roll-back planning.
- Monitor system alerts and respond quickly to failures. Lead sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
Compliance, Security & Audits

- Perform Certificate Renewals on CMDB infrastructure, build automation strategies and plans
- Handle any vulnerabilities, build action plans, remediate
- Support internal and external audits as requested post approval.
- Ensure adherence to security, privacy, and regulatory requirements for CI data; manage role-based access and permissions within BMC platforms.
Stakeholder Management & Enablement

- Partner with various engineering and support teams like ITSM, Discovery etc, Platform/Tools teams, Security, and Service Owners to ensure CMDB supports Service Mapping, Application Modeling, Change risk assessment, Impact analysis, and Asset/Inventory needs.
Qualifications / Position Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting BMC Helix/Remedy CMDB in enterprise environments.
- (Good to have) Certifications: BMC Certified Administrator – Helix Discovery/CMDB, ITIL Foundation/Intermediate, Linux (RHCSA).
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise with BMC CMDB (Class Manager, CDM modeling, Normalization, Reconciliation, Atrium Integrator/ETL)
- Exposure to Application Modeling, Impact Analysis, Product Catalog configurations, ITSM Foundational Data configurations.
- BMC Helix/Remedy ITSM modules and their CI dependencies (Change, Incident, Asset, SRM)
- Data modeling for CIs & relationships (Business Services, Applications, Compute, Network, Storage, Cloud, etc)
- Experience with PostgreSQL/Oracle/MS SQL for CMDB/ITSM backend queries and performance tuning.
- Scripting/automation (e.g., SQL, Shell, Python or PowerShell for utilities and data fixes)
- API-based integrations (REST/SOAP), amiliar with curl, swagger, request/payload management, bulk loads (CSV/XML), ETL design and monitoring
- Solid understanding of ITSM Processes especially Configuration Management and Change, Incident and Problem management.
Soft Skills

- Strong communication and stakeholder management; ability to translate technical CMDB concepts into business value.

Good to Have
BMC Discovery (ADDM)
- Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and administering BMC Discovery (on-prem/Helix), including:
- Credential management, scan ranges, probes/sensors, patterns, and TKU updates
- Interpreting Discovery patterns, extending or tuning patterns to improve CI population and relationship accuracy
- Designing staggered scan schedules, managing scan performance, and validating Discovery → CMDB data flow
- Troubleshooting Discovery → CMDB synchronization, mapping to classes, and reconciliation policies
Linux Administration
- Working knowledge of Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) for:
- Platform support for BMC components (service management, log analysis, backups, SSL certs, cron jobs)
- Shell scripting for log parsing, job orchestration, and file-based data loads
- Basic networking, firewall, and DNS concepts relevant to Discovery and integrations
Additional Pluses
- Exposure to Cloud CMDB & Discovery use cases (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and tagging standards.
- Familiarity with Service Modeling and Impact/Event Monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace, BlazeMeter, AppDynamics, SolarWinds, Prometheus).
