About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accessibility Specialist with deep technical expertise in accessibility auditing, remediation, AI-assisted testing, and automation frameworks. The candidate will work across enterprise-level applications to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, and ADA. This role requires advanced hands-on experience with assistive technologies, testing tools, ARIA implementation, and expert knowledge in AI-powered accessibility testing platforms.
This position requires specialized technical knowledge and a CS/IT/Engineering degree, making it a clearly defined specialty occupation.
Key Responsibilities
- Accessibility Auditing & Manual Testing
- Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits for web and mobile applications.
- Evaluate compliance against WCAG 2.1/2.2 (A/AA), Section 508, ADA.
- Perform testing using assistive technologies including JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack,Brwoserstack, Evinced, AXE, Level Access AMP, Switch Access, ZoomText, ChromeVox, and color contrast analyzers.
- AI-Driven Accessibility Platform Development
- Contribute to the design and enhancement of an AI-powered accessibility testing platform capable of automating WCAG checks for large-scale applications.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate axe-core, cognitive models, ML-based rule engines, and heuristic-driven defect classifiers.
- Support the development of AI pipelines to detect accessibility gaps and generate automated remediation suggestions.
- Validate AI-generated test outputs using manual testing and AT tools to improve model accuracy.
- Participate in architecture discussions for scalable accessibility scanning and monitoring services.
- Accessibility Automation & CI/CD Integration
- Build and maintain automated accessibility test frameworks using Playwright, Selenium, axe-core, Accessibility Insights CLI.
- Integrate automated scanning into CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, etc.).
- Write reusable automated scripts to test keyboard navigation, ARIA usage, semantic roles, focus order, and DOM structure.
- Improve automation coverage to reduce manual testing cycles.
- Code-Level Accessibility Remediation
- Review frontend code (HTML, CSS, React, Angular, JS) to identify and fix accessibility issues.
- Recommend ARIA roles, states, landmarks, and semantic markup.
- Ensure correct implementation of keyboard operability, alternative text, focus management, and form labeling.
- VPAT / ACR Authoring & Documentation
- Prepare and maintain VPATs and Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs).
- Document technical accessibility findings, remediation steps, and compliance status.
- Partner with legal and procurement for accessibility risk responses.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with designers, developers, QA, compliance, legal, and product owners.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and accessibility governance discussions.
- Provide expert guidance to ensure accessibility is embedded across design and development lifecycles.
- Accessibility Training & Thought Leadership
- Conduct workshops, training sessions, and developer enablement programs.
- Create internal best practices, playbooks, and standardized accessibility guidelines for engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related technical field.
- 6+ years of experience in accessibility testing, auditing, and code remediation.
- Strong expertise in WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, ADA.
- Hands-on experience with assistive technology tools (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
- Strong knowledge of automation tools (axe-core, Playwright, Selenium).
- Experience contributing to AI/ML-driven testing solutions.
- Experience writing VPATs/ACRs and managing accessibility defects.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- IAAP CPWA (CPACC + WAS).
- ISTQB CTFL, PMP, or SAFe certification.
- DHS Trusted Tester Certification.
- Experience with large-scale accessibility governance, enterprise audits, and design system accessibility.
