Description of ServicesThe Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) is looking for a skilled Business Systems Analyst with investment domain experience to help modernize our data environment. In this role, the Worker will support the modernization of an Investment Accounting and data, enhance key Portfolio Management data applications, and contribute to building a scalable, self-service data delivery model that increases efficiency and insights across the business.
General DescriptionERS is launching major initiatives to modernize its Investment Accounting and data management capabilities. We are building a trusted, integrated, and scalable information infrastructure that transforms complex investment data into clear, actionable insights.
As a Business Systems Analyst, you will play a key role in this transformation. You will work closely with the Investments division to assess solution options, capture and document data requirements, and support the selection of an Investment Accounting and data management solution. Once a solution is chosen, you will contribute to its implementation and ensure it aligns with ERS' investment business needs.
In addition, you will help advance Portfolio Management data applications and design interactive data visualizations that strengthen financial reporting and decision-making across the organization. This role is highly collaborative, partnering with stakeholders across Investments, IT Shared Services, Finance, and providing advisory support to Investments leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

Functional Responsibilities- Lead the elicitation of business, data, and process requirements through interviews, workshops, document analysis, workflow reviews, and stakeholder meetings.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation for the Investment Accounting system and data solution including detailed front-to-back investment process workflows, data flows, source to target data maps, data definitions to ensure that processes are understood to reduce the risk of requirements gaps, and to prepare ERS for an implementation.
- Define ERS specific use cases and requirements, analyze vendor capabilities, and participate in solution demonstrations that guide target system design and configuration.
- Assist with system implementation tasks, including configuration support, data mapping, data validation, test script development, and execution of user acceptance testing.
- Enhance and optimize portfolio management applications, ensuring reliable, timely, and accurate data delivery.
- Contribute to the development of data governance practices, including data quality checks, metadata documentation, lineage tracking, and process standardization.
- Support change management activities by preparing training materials, creating user documentation, and assisting with end-user onboarding.
- Provide advisory support to Investments leadership throughout project lifecycle, ensuring transparency, risk awareness, and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Design interactive dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support investment analysis, financial reporting, and strategic decision-making.
- Design solutions that align with ERS enterprise architecture, internal controls, and information security policies.
- Adhere to ERS' standard operating procedures related to approvals, reviews, change control, and agile project governance.
- Complete all required information security training as administered by ERS.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 10 years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst with a minimum of 5 years supporting data for financial systems.
- 10 years of hands-on experience eliciting and documenting requirements, developing cross-functional maps and detailed activity level flows.
- 5 years of hands-on experience with data analysis, data validation, and data mapping.
- 5 years of experience in extracting data from large datasets with proficiency in writing basic to advanced SQL queries, joins, aggregations.
- 5 years of experience with system implementations, upgrades, and integrations for top/common Investment Accounting Systems and Investment data management platforms.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in the investments services industry, preferably within an asset management or asset owner environment.
- Understanding of investment concepts, public and private asset classes, and portfolio/accounting workflows.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Solid organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
- Ability to translate complex technical details into clear business terms for non-technical stakeholders.
- Developing dashboards or reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms are a plus.
- Understanding of REST APIs, low code/no code tools, cloud-based data architectures, and modern data platforms. Optional but valuable.
- Professional certifications such as CBAP and CFA are a plus.
Professional Expectations- Attends all meetings, meets delivery deadlines and is available during ERS office hours.
- Logs in and remains on agency Jabber during work hours.
- Attends remote meetings with camera on unless prior arranged for camera off.
