Job Description:

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a highly skilled IT Engineer with strong experience in both Microsoft Enterprise Systems and Linux administration to provide Tier II support for a large Federal Intelligence Agency. This role is part of a high-performing team that supports mission-critical infrastructure across multiple security enclaves and hybrid environments (Windows and RHEL).

As a Tier 2 engineer, you will be responsible for advanced troubleshooting, user support, and system optimization for both Windows and Linux platforms, helping ensure consistent system performance and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide Tier II support for incident resolution and user issues in a mixed Windows/Linux enterprise environment.
  • Administer and support Windows workstations and servers (Windows 10, Server 2012/2016), including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and DFS.
  • Perform Linux system administration (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu), including user management, permissions, and basic performance diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoot application crashes, system performance issues, and connectivity problems.
  • Deliver remote and on-site end-user desktop support, resolving escalated technical issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Respond to service desk escalations using tools like ServiceNow or NETS; provide documentation and incident reporting.
  • Collaborate with external teams to analyze and improve end-user experience.
  • Participate in incident triage and real-time response efforts.
  • Engage in special projects and contribute to long-term solutions for recurring system issues.
  • Maintain compliance with DoD security standards, including DoD 8570 IA certification requirements.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work/military experience).
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in systems administration, with demonstrated Tier 2 support capabilities.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE, SSCP, or CCNA-Security). Security+ CE preferred.
  • Must obtain the appropriate Computing Environment (CE) training within six (6) months of hire.

Required Technical Skills & Knowledge:
  • Windows operating systems (Windows 10, Server 2012/2016)
  • Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu)
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, DFS, LDAP
  • Troubleshooting Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word), Java, and web browsers
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of ITIL v3 or higher

The likely salary range for this position is $115,256 - $155,934. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
