Job Title: Sr Network Engineer
Job Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and validating the migration of Ethernet and Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) customer circuits from legacy networks and devices to a new Nokia-based MPLS network. This role performs detailed technical analysis, circuit design updates, live network migrations, and post-cutover validation while ensuring minimal customer impact and adherence to change management standards.
The engineer works closely with project managers, field teams, NOCs, and carrier partners to deliver reliable, scalable, and fully documented customer circuit migrations.Key
Responsibilities Network Engineering & Migration Execution
Perform customer circuit migrations for Ethernet and DIA services from legacy platforms to new Nokia network
Execute live maintenance windows, circuit provisioning, including turn-up, cutover, rollback, and post-migration validation
Configure, test, and troubleshoot Nokia MPLS routers and related transport equipment
Validate service performance post-migration (latency, packet loss, throughput, BFD, LSP status, etc.)
Design, Documentation & Systems Updates
Update circuit designs, logical diagrams, and service paths to reflect new MPLS architecture
Maintain accurate records in network inventory, provisioning, and design systems (e.g., circuit databases, NMS, OSS tools)
Create and update Methods of Procedure (MOPs), as-built documentation, and migration runbooks
Ensure circuit IDs, port assignments, VLANs, IP addressing, and routing details are correctly captured
Legacy Network Decommissioning
Identify and validate legacy circuit dependencies prior to migration
Support decommissioning of legacy network elements and services post-migration
Coordinate cleanup of obsolete configurations and reclaim ports and resources
Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate with project managers to support migration planning and scheduling
Work with NOC and field operations during live cutovers and troubleshooting events
Engage carriers and vendors as needed for circuit readiness, testing, and issue resolution
Provide technical guidance and escalation support during complex migrations
Change, Risk & Quality Management
Follow established change management and maintenance window procedures
Develop rollback plans and execute recovery actions when required
Proactively identify migration risks and service-impact concerns
Participate in post-migration reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in telecommunications or service-provider network engineering
Hands-on experience migrating Ethernet and DIA circuits in a carrier network
Strong working knowledge of MPLS fundamentals (LSPs, VRFs, QoS, L2/L3 VPNs)
Experience with Nokia (Alcatel-Lucent) routers and operating systems (SR OS preferred)
Proficiency in updating circuit design, inventory, and provisioning systems
Ability to execute live production changes in high-availability networks
Preferred Qualifications
Experience migrating from legacy platforms (TDM, legacy Ethernet, older IP/MPLS gear)
Familiarity with Nokia service routers (e.g., 7750 SR, 7250 IXR)
Knowledge of OSS/BSS tools such as INAM, CND, Granite, or similar inventory systems
Understanding of carrier Ethernet standards (MEF)
Experience supporting after-hours and weekend maintenance windows
Key Skills
Ethernet and DIA service delivery
Nokia MPLS configuration and troubleshooting
Circuit design and documentation accuracy
OSS/NMS systems proficiency
Change management and risk mitigation
