SAP Techno-Functional Lead
Location: Chicago. IL (On-site role)
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced SAP Techno-Functional Consultant / Lead with strong expertise in SAP ABAP and SAP CPI, along with a solid understanding of end-to-end SAP business processes and integrations.
The role will have explicit ownership of integration and EDI capabilities, as integration failures can directly impact otherwise healthy SAP business processes. The ideal candidate will therefore combine strong technical skills with functional understanding, stakeholder management, and team leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide techno-functional leadership across SAP applications and integrations.
- Develop, enhance, troubleshoot, and support SAP solutions using ABAP.
- Take ownership of SAP CPI integration development, monitoring, troubleshooting, and support.
- Analyse integration failures and identify root causes across SAP and connected systems.
- Support and maintain EDI interfaces and transaction flows.
- Work closely with functional teams to understand business processes and translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Collaborate with SAP PP and other functional teams to ensure seamless end-to-end process integration.
- Support integration design, interface development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
- Review existing integrations and identify opportunities for performance, reliability, and maintainability improvements.
- Work with internal teams, client stakeholders, vendors, and external system teams to resolve critical integration issues.
- Provide technical leadership for complex incidents and ensure timely resolution of business-critical issues.
- Support development and maintenance of WRICEF objects and related SAP technical solutions.
- Ensure appropriate technical documentation, solution design, testing, and support procedures are maintained.
- Lead technical activities across projects, enhancements, releases, and production support.
Required Skills & Experience
SAP ABAP
- Strong hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development and troubleshooting.
- Experience with custom developments, enhancements, interfaces, reports, forms, and other SAP technical objects.
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis capabilities.
- Experience working with functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
SAP CPI / Integration
- Strong experience with SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI).
- Experience designing, developing, monitoring, and troubleshooting SAP integrations.
- Strong understanding of integration patterns, interfaces, mappings, error handling, and monitoring.
- Experience supporting complex integration landscapes and resolving production-critical interface failures.
- Understanding of EDI integration and transaction flows is highly desirable.
Techno-Functional Capability
- Strong understanding of SAP business processes and the ability to bridge functional and technical requirements.
- Ability to work closely with SAP functional teams, business users, and external system teams.
- Experience with complex SAP integration environments and multiple dependent systems.
- Experience supporting high-volume interface environments and business-critical integrations.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Excellent stakeholder management and team leadership capabilities are essential for this role.
The successful candidate should be able to:
- Lead technical teams and coordinate activities across functional and technical workstreams.
- Communicate effectively with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and client leadership.
- Take end-to-end ownership of critical technical and integration issues.
- Manage competing priorities and drive timely resolution of production issues.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to the client and project leadership.
