Role: Maintenance Planner & Scheduler
Location: Aurora, IL
4 days a week on-site
Role Summary
The Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is responsible for coordinating, planning, and optimizing all maintenance activities within the data center to ensure reliability, efficiency, and minimal operational disruption. This role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and Facilities teams to manage work orders, resources, materials, and scheduling across critical infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
- Plan, prioritize, and schedule all maintenance work orders to ensure readiness, resource availability, and timely execution
- Develop and manage maintenance plans, master schedules, and outage schedules, minimizing impact to operations
- Coordinate major and minor site outages, including maintenance shutdowns
- Ensure effective utilization of labor, materials, and equipment resources
CMMS & Work Order Management
- Manage and maintain the CMMS system, ensuring accurate scheduling, tracking, and closure of work orders
- Review completed work orders for labor hours, materials used, and quality of work performed
- Ensure all required resources are available prior to work execution
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Facilities teams to align maintenance activities with operational priorities
- Maintain clear and continuous communication across departments to support efficient workflow
- Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure timely and compliant execution of work
Inventory & Resource Management
- Manage spare parts inventory, including sourcing, procurement, and stock optimization
- Assess resource needs and coordinate contracted support when required
Process Improvement & Documentation
- Develop, review, and update SOPs, job plans, and maintenance procedures
- Lead or support root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and implement corrective actions
- Drive continuous improvement in maintenance processes, safety practices, and operational efficiency
Project Support
- Assist in planning and execution of capital projects and site improvements
- Monitor project timelines, materials, and resource allocation
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with all company, regulatory, and environmental standards
- Identify and escalate the need for major repairs or system upgrades
Qualifications
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities across multiple teams
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Visio, AutoCAD, or similar tools
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required; technical degree or certifications preferred
- 5+ years of experience in data center, industrial maintenance, or related environments
- 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
- 3+ years of maintenance planning/scheduling experience
- Experience with:
- CMMS systems and work order control processes
- Change management procedures
- Maintenance and repair of plant equipment (e.g., pumps, piping, heat exchangers, instrumentation, control systems)
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, operational environment with shifting priorities
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Availability for after-hours and emergency support as needed
